I saw an interesting mixture of photography and painting over the weekend. A local artist who paints with acrylics and oils has integrated photography with her painting. She would take a photo of a 'section' of some object such as a building, bridge, or other object. She would paste the photograph onto a canvas and paint the rest of the scene around the photo. Has anyone ever done this or seen it done before?

We used to do this as a drawing exercise, but I've never seen it done with paints before! |

Nice, Id like to try and convert a pic of mine to a line type drawing, print it on fiber paper, and then maybe use real water colors to paint over it. Sounds like the meshing of digital photography and traditional art methods could be alot of fun. :)

That also sounds similar to the way some of those "Genuine Oil Paintings" for $16.99 (incl. frame) which you "see on TV" are made ... but with a more artistic than avaricious purpose. |

I too would like to try that..I do work in oils and acrylics and it would be interesting to do some for our local art show. I think I saw an example of photo/line drawing and watercolor while visiting friend in Terrace,B.C. It was framed in a shadow box type and looked great. It was done on smooth white illustration board
