I've seen similar threads but mine is slightly differnt. I have a 6 hour layover in Toronto between flights coming back from the Europe GTG and I was wondering is there anything good to do near the airport? I don't want to go too far or cut anything too close and miss my flight, but is there anything cool I can get too quickly and easily?
Thanks

Hi Crystal,
With that short turn around time, you really do not have much time for any useful adventures off premise. When you land from Europe, you will need to clear customs and immigration, finally collecting your luggage. For your flight into the USA, you will clear US customs and immigration here in Toronto. With the US strict requirements for inspections, you could easily consume 1-3 hours for these tasks depending upon the traffic passing through the airport at the time.
Most European flights arrive between 3:00 PM and 7:00 pm, so I would recommend staying on the airport property. Downtown is 30 minutes by taxi and any delays due to rush hour on a weekday could upset your plans. There is lots to shoot in an airport anyway. Other than in US customs, you will not likely be harassed for taking pictures.
If you want to take a fast run, then I suggest a taxi to the harbour front near the Queen's Quay Terminal at the foot of York Street. You have boats, water, people, the city skyline, CN Tower, and more.
Weather would influence this suggestion greatly. If it is raining, do not do it. If it is sunny, then it may be risky, but fun for a mad dash. Please share any images that you capture.

Thanks Micheal. Maybe I won't risk it then. I was thinking it would be a looooooong, duuuull 6 hours with nothing to do but I didn't think of Customs. It will still be long and dull but at least I'll have something to do. :P |

Here are a couple of addition images to give you a flavour of what to expect.
It is a very safe area, but is still a cityscape environment. So, there are lots of tourists this time of year.

Ben,
Wonderful shots, very dramatic. You do us proud so thank you for sharing.
It was just announced that the CN Tower will be lit from top to bottom with millions of miniature LED lights. These lights can produce over 16 million colours. So now the CN Tower is a visual calliope of colour with rich and vibrant red, green, blue, yellow, orange and magenta. The lighting is all controlled by computer animation, so the lights put on a dazzling show at night. If that does not attract attention, then nothing will.

Sure, it sounds a bit tacky, but in all honesty, it looks very nice and is a huge reduction in power consumption compared to the previously high energy lights.
Cheers,
Michael
