I really like Mavrik's approach of asking for feedback in the other thread. Since I don't want to hijack his thread, I figured I'd start another one. I'm one of those people that had a gazillion prints up and then some. I've already gone through and removed a bunch of them, but there's still a lot left.

Since I seem to be a bad judge of these things (most of the prints that I sold were the ones that I thought wouldn't sell and the ones that I thought would go like hotcakes don't sell), please let me know which ones you think are definitely keepers and which additional ones I could loose ...

My Prints Store

Thanks :)

One thing, after looking briefly (will take a longer look in a little bit), I think the thick dark borders detract from otherwise lovely prints.

Firstly, most of them are really stunning - I wouldn't be too harsh unnecessarily..

For 'Just Hanging Out' I think I'd prefer a sharp crop rather than feathered edge.

Also, for Unripe I think I might have chosen a lighter border.

Also also, I'm not too keen on 'Wherever it may lead ...'.

Purely from a sales point of view, I'm not sure how saleable 'Pasta!!' and 'Close Shave' are.

But, honestly, most are stunning.

Hey Franziska,
Here's my list of Keep 'Ems:
little bug, beautiful place, spread you wings, journey (thoughI'm not a big fan of text on prints), wherever it may lead, storm coming, both sunsets, remoteness, earth boils, take a break (awesome), fallen heart, reflection on winter, i long to travel, on tip toes, WTC, going round, grasping hands, just hanging out, old cemetery (might want to fix the spelling on the title;) ), gravestones, still standing, cemetery views.

Some of the others are really great photos, but may not have the curb appeal to warrant a sale. I was trying to look at them as if i was walking through a store - 'does this belong?'. anyway, that's what i came up with. hope it helps some.

Pedro

ps I'm not a flower macro fan, really, that's why none of those made the list - there are kabillions of those out there. :)

Thanks to those that have responded. Keep 'em coming to the others.

Kavamama (and others) I'm actually contemplating redoing all of them w/out borders at all. The ones of mine that I have ordered and framed have all been the ones w/out so I'm starting to think that maybe buyers would rather have them w/out. Or, I'll try John's style of doing the border and signature so it can be covered by the mat.... have to do some more soulsearching first I guess ;)

The dilemna of border/no border has actually kept me from uploading any prints for sale, despite requests. I think it would be so much easier to upload w/out border, but perhaps a small white border to facilitate matting...I wouldn't want to cover any relative detail of the photo.

i actually decided last night to go and get rid of my borders, other than a simple 10 or 20 pixel line. I like the signature idea in the border, so they can hide it if the choose.

For the requests, you could always ask people what they prefer and then upload it that way.

If I decide to go "no border" I'll just make sure that nothing crucial in the photo is very close to the edge so that a little overlap in matting wouldn't harm the photo ...

But I do know what you mean. At one point I was contemplating uploading each shot twice, once with and once w/out border. LOL

Where did the red clothespin picture go? That was yours, wasn't it? It was one of my favorite prints on the site.

I really do love many of your prints. To pick a couple favorites... Dwarfed by Nature, Natural Fire, Little Bug ... Big Antennas, A Peaceful Place, Reflection on Winter, Going Round In Circles, French Quarter, Burst of Color, A Window-cleaner's Nightmare, Warm Summer Nights, Perched, Cemetary Views. OK, that was way more than a couple.

Least favorites: Jammin', A Storm Is Coming (good picture, bad border), Softly Softly (not into the border effect), Sunset (pretty boring compared to the rest of your prints).

Good luck! :)

Just remember to leave a 1-2% padding around all text, so that no text is accidentally cropped (there is a couple millimeter margin of error on the print cutter).

This is an issue that I have had with ordering prints from dpcprints. I WANTED a signature that I could see, (my mother and I both expect, and want signatures on all of the artwork in our homes), and when I got the print, the signature was so small that you could barely even see it with a magnifying glass! I was VERY disappointed in that. The photographer was wonderful, and sent an actual signed print to me, so I was thrilled. But be aware that there are many people who view photography as an art form and really do want the artist's name on the work.

All of mine have visible signatures. ;)

hmm. i was going to say something in mavrik's thread, but I'll just say it here since he seems to be reading this one too.

I think it's great that we are all looking at out prints for sale and trying to decide which ones are worthy of keeping up. Based on the wide varieties of opinions, I think it is really impossible, and silly, to predict which prints will get sold. There are all kinds of people out there looking for all kinds of things. Basically, we should all be making an effort to be polishing and perfecting our prints for sale so that they look as professional as possilbe, the best we have. You are a very talented photographer so use your own good judgement. Don't get rid of prints because they haven't sold or they aren't your personal favorite (unless you're running out of space or something :) Only get rid of prints that you look at and clearly think, this isn't my best work, I'm almost embarassed to have this up. Fix it if you can, or scratch it. You've got tons of great stuff to work with.

@Jason - some are just mutually agreeable good or bad (my Gastown Steam Clock and A-symmetry).

@Franziska - You have so many beautiful shots up that I won't liste my faves. The ones I'd consider pitching are: Peaceful Place, Ice Cold Feet, Cruisin on Bourbon St., Grace, and Perched.

I think you've chosen wisely.

I may be unusual, but I prefer photos without the photographer's name on it, unless it's tiny and in the corner as is done in paintings. Since I will usually mat a photo before framing, any name in the border, as well as any thick border, will be covered up. I will usually put the photographer's name on the back of the whole shebang, and if it is in my house and on my wall, I will usually enthusiastically recommend the artist to my guests.

So my critique is against the use of your very thick borders. Your photos are so lovely that I want them as large as possible and I'll not see the border anyway.

Keep up the good work, Franziska!
