You know the rules, such as rule of thirds, sharp focus, level horizons, no blown highlights. Now go and break some of them and show us your best artistic shot using the broken rules to add impact to your art. |

Lovely idea, but a word of warning: to break one compositional rule often means to use another one; for example, a symmetrical image breaks the rule of thirds, but "symmetry" is another rule. I'd like to think the winners here would make creative use of blur, soft focus, extremely contrasty light, stuff like that, but who knows?

Thanks Bear you've worded it better than I did.

...to break the rules effectively you have to first KNOW what the rules are...

Or at least accidentally make it look like you do :-)

So, now my shot gets voted down because I failed to properly break the rules? |

I thought we got DQ'd for breaking the rules!
;P
Seriously, it should be unambiguous in the challenge description which rules are intended to be broken and which are not. |

Ok, so let's do it.
My luck, I'd get voted down for not having enough in focus. |
