Think about it:

Sharpen,
Burn,
Dodge,
Plug in,
Filter,
Reduce Noise,
Variations etc etc etc

The list goes on and on with very open-ended creativity and could make some damned fine pictures given the subjects within the bigger subject, the only stipulation being that it has to be a standard tool for use in Photoshop (CS or whatever edition is decided upon) and not a downloaded tool or brush or whatever.

What say you?

Not everyone uses Photoshop.

I think a non-software specific challenge where the tools used are similar would be more appropriate.

Now, a question:

All these tools are available to the photographer in all advanced and expert challenges so why the suggestion?

Do you want to focus on one filter/adjustment per challenge?

Exactly what are you asking? I don't completely understand. Is this a challenge suggestion?

Most of these tools are already available to use in the Advanced challenges, and all of them are under the Expert rules, so I'm not sure how you want to make them into the challenge topic.

Are you suggesting we all start with the same picture and compete over whose post-processing is best?

Oh let's please never do that here........this is a photography site, not a post processing site. And before anyone yells at me, I agree that post processing is usually necessary and an asset to a digital photograph but let's keep this first and foremost a photography challenge site where members enter their own photos in challenges, not someone elses that they have simply processed.

Maybe "pick one and that's all you get" challenge?

Not quite, sorry for not being more discerning.

Basically, we know in PS you have different tools, burn etc that could all be used as challenge entries in their own right... some examples:

Burn: a fire
Unsharpen: someone blunting a knife
Reduce Noise: a stereo on mute
Equalize: set of scales
Threshold: a door
Multilpy: a chalkboard with some sums on it

That's what I was trying to get at but the titles must be something to do with a photoshop effect. Does this make it any clearer? I'm trying to think but my wife is asking me annoying questions.

I hate when that happens!

I think your idea is interesting. Someone could post a list of all the tools so those withoug Photoshop would know their choices.

Ooo.. I have one for Gaussian Blur..

OK...now I see. I think that is a clever idea. Maybe just a double-entendre challenge so there aren't 35 fire shots...

a good description for it could be

..Pick your favourite photoshop(or equiv. editing program) tool and creatively take a photo of it.

or something like that

Yeah thats it, perfectly put. Now how does this procedure work? DO the clandestine rulers of DPC take a look at it and decide whether it's feasable? Thing is, i know a lot of people are against these kind of sites because they are viewed as 'photoshop competitions' and this will literally be just that :)

Thanks for your suggestions guys, and the amendments also. Appreciated.

I would add "The title of your photo should be the name of the editing tool."

Though I have a pretty good idea what the overwhelmingly most popular choice will be and how it will be presented : )

From here it should find its way onto the list of suggested topics; the description may be tweaked. Only the admins know when challenges will be scheduled.
