So I finally got my first maternity session yesterday. I didn't really WANT to shoot the maternity, but I know it guarantees me the new baby shoot in a few weeks. I was a little frustrated coming up with ideas because there is only so much you can do with a belly lol
We had fun and both enjoyed the session. Here are a few favorites:

Share your belly pics if you like. I would love to see others' take on this type of portraiture.

I saw the most gorgeous quote yesterday -

Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ~Elizabeth Stone

I want to print that on the matboard of the image she wants framed (not chosen yet) for her husband for Father's Day.

Bec - I LOVE the one with the two images. That's a great way for mommy to remember the pregnancy. All of them are lovely.

Any other belly shooters out there today? :)

Cindi... Great job!!!! Maternity photography is so much fun... It's an area I'm quickly specializing in, here are some from my pregnancy gallery

Here are some of my favorites from that gallery.

I also have a newborn gallery that desperately needs updating.

I have more on my website.

I just finished up another client (before and after) that I haven't posted yet and have twin sisters who are BOTH pregnant (7 mos. and 5 mos.) that I'll be shooting later this month. Now THAT will be a fun shoot and a very rare opportunity... I agreed to do it at no charge because opportunities like that don't come around very often. I'm very excited.

All of your maternity pictures are great. I have only done one shoot with a pregnant mom. This was about 2 months ago. I just got done last weekend doing the baby pictures.

Jennifer - I love the idea of the bow! Wish I'd thought of that! :)

Lee - I've admired your maternity shots for a while now. I have another expecting mom due to book in the next few weeks -- she's tall and willowy and lovely. I will try out some of your ideas if you don't mind. :)

Awwww... now see you went and made me blush. What a huge compliment coming from you. Thank you.

There was a billboard here awhile back that had just the tummy of a very pregnant woman with a pair of baby shoes on top, shot from the side with mom lying on her back. It was very cute.

had to go back into my (mostly defunct) blog to find this, but here's one i took of my wife back when she was pregnant with our son and i was first getting sucked into photography :

25 weeks

i'd love to try some again, now that i have a real camera and a better understanding of the art, but unfortunately the opportunity has yet to present itself again...

I've seen a shot done like that, Deb. The one I saw had the woman standing beside a window, but with the lil pink booties. It was very cute. I'm going to have to invest in some booties to keep in the stuio. :)

This was my first try at a maternity portrait. The subject loved it even though she was a little nervous about the whole experience.

I printed some for her and she had them framed and on display at her baby shower!

Please don't make the same mistake I did with maternity shots.

A husband and wife came to me and wanted me to take a half-hour session of the wife's pregnancy each month. I signed the contract with the husband and he paid me in advance.

I took pictures and ordered an album to put them in after the baby was born, and the wife told me they got divorced in the 8th month and not to give the pictures to the husband. Some of the photos were revealing.

I told the husband I could not give him the pictures and gave him his money back. He threatened to sue me and did.

The court ruled in my favor but I still had the expense of the lawyer.

Lesson learned: In a contract like this, always deal with the subject.

OMG, Doug that sucks! Getting sued sucks, but I'm glad you won. But, WTF with getting divorced when she's 8 months pregnat... yuck!

Awww this makes me miss working at my old job. I love this stuff! One day I'll have to move out of LA so I can actually afford to have a studio of my own.

I was going to suggest one I liked where the mom sits criss crossed, taterbug's first image is exaclty what I was thinking. You can also do same idea but with her legs off to the side kind of lounging out. And then of course the ever so cute one if you get a mom that has another young child is to have them kiss the belly or put their ear up to it.
