I am not very fond of your potd to be honest with you. Your horizon is horribly crooked. Not enough to be any type of dramatic angle or anything, but rather just looks sloppy. It's my biggest peeve. It only takes seconds to correct and can mean the difference between a winning shot or just an 'ok' shot to me.

With respect, Shari, I think that's the wrong attitude. If you're taking pictures to please the voters they're probably not going to do well. I would suggest that instead, you take pictures that *you* like and want to take. If you submit them and they do well, that's a bonus. If they don't do well - hey, *you* still like them.

Ultimately, if participation in this site isn't giving you pleasure, then stop. It is meant to be fun after all :-)

And as to decreasing numbers of comments (this thread's original topic), I think that's partly a by-product of DPC's increasing popularity - if there are 200-300 shots in a challenge, it's much more time-consuming to make comments on them.

I could be wrong but....

DPChallenge is a 'competition' site. It's not a site that is specifically designed to provide continual 'pats on the back'. You will occasionally get positive reinforcement. You will occasionally get the opposite as well.

How many comments would we have to receive on a photo for it to be an acceptable amount?

What does our score have to be before it's acceptable?

Participation on DPChallenge requires thick skin. These threads of this type come up every week. I can't remember a single week since I have been on this site that they haven't. We all think we are better than everyone else thinks we are. We gotta learn to deal with that.

Pinback is exactly right. If all you wanna do is impress the voters, then good luck :) Photography should definitely be a source of enjoyment for those who do it. If it's not, try something like knitting or gardening.

This is deja vu all over again...
