Did I say that right?

Anyways, whenever I have a few programs open at the same time, such as CS2, iTunes, the Internet, and a bunch of random programs, my iTunes slows down and the songs sound horrible. Is there a way to allocate more of my computer's "resources" (memory or whatever) towards iTunes so it can handle running while all of these applications are running also?

I have a new Gateway laptop (PC) top of the line, so it should work smoothly. I think it's just because I have so many programs on here...

Your OS does a fine job of allocating resources itself, the question is, how much RAM do you have (the main resource). Max out your system if you can. RAM is not expensive.

It's maxed. I bought the highest possible option. Are you sure there isn't a manual way of throwing a little more RAM iTune's way?

The only simple option in 2000/XP/Vista is the option to allocate ram towards either applications or background processes. But Ive never noticed a tremendous difference.

Your best bet would be to look at how much RAM photoshop is taking. You can reduce that in the settings so more memory is available for the other applications.

On his note when the ram maxes out say for photoshop's purposes, page filing/virtual memory is used if its forcing iTunes to use page filing instead of actual ram this will shoot performance down the drain as with any application.

Open task manager & select the processes tab.
Right click on the process you want to change priority for, click 'set priority' and change as required.
Be very careful setting anything to realtime priority though, you can make everything else (including Windows itself) totally unresponsive!

Not that this is threading priority for the processor and will make little difference to allocation of ram. However it does allow it more and priority processor time.

Personally I use it on 7zip when compressing files.

Ive never used it on iTunes and dont have issues with music.

But i have mad problems with video and multitasking. Anyone else have that issue? Might have to try this on itunes when watching tv shows.

I will second that one! iTunes is a pile of garbage when compared to winamp. And you can also use your iPod with winamp. The huge thing is that you don't have to go through any of that sync crap that you need to do with iTunes. With winamp, it's plug in and go.

Not to mention that winamp can transfer files OFF of your iPod as well as onto it. :) Great for those who have had a computer crash or something like that.
