I'd like to see this go a bit faster. I'm going to up my donation to $4 for each day the queue is zero.

Let's add Sunday, May 13

:)

I received this helpful comment from Terry:
Greetings from the Critique Club!

I like the unique perspective provided by the 45-degree angle. Still, my first impression was that something seemed "off-balance" about the composition. I've been looking at it for a little while, and experimenting with different crops, and I've figured out two things which bother me about the composition.

First, the small bit of roof visible in both corners seems to break the repetitive flow of the image, and seems to serve no real purpose. I would have preferred to see this zoomed in closer, or alternately, cropped tighter.

Second, while you were careful to have the horizon line flow from one corner to the other, it appears you may not have been as careful with the other two corner. Recomposing (or, alternately, re-cropping) with a set of pillars running from corner to corner seems to strengthen the symmetry of the image.

As a more minor point, it looks like your horizon line does not quite run corner to corner. It may have been worthwhile to rotate the image slightly to correct that.

Black and white was a good choice here, as it focuses the viewer on the lines and patterns. I like the decision to shoot at an angle here. Too often, people do that because "it's artsy" without having a reason why. In this case, you had a good reason why, and the effect you were going for with it worked.

I got some pretty good comments on my DPL Album Cover :

And of course my Dr. Seuss entry got its own forum thread, lead off by this comment:

It is the only photo I can think of that received a Posthumous Blue Ribbon and a DPC Brown Ribbon. It embodies the OOBIE as well as any photo I can think of... not by avoiding the challenge but by fulfilling it so perfectly that almost no one can see it.

Congratulations, General!!!

13 days so far. There are only like 100 plus a few odd in the critique club queue right now, so a few more days of "0" is possible.

Terry -- how many comments have been made this month so far, and is that more than normal?

Just a few days to make comments for a chance at a free membership!

Karma: I'll get a count next time I can find Langdon.

There were 60,640 comments made in May, compared to 51,393 in April. That's an 18% increase! The total increase will probably end up being slightly more than that, since the contest didn't begin until 4 May, and will run through and including 3 June.

You've got all weekend to get your comments in and counted!

Wait - I 'm confused. (just found this thread at the 11th hour) So you have to show comments? Or you are just finding them at random? I'd be happy to donate $$.

Maybe I need more coffee and to re-read the entire thread. LOL

Yes, you just post comments on ANYONE'S pictures and one of the selected SC member will randomly choose a name from random pictures. So everyone is really doing this. It's kinda like the lottery, except instead of buying a ticket your leaving comments. TODAY COULD BE THE DAY!!! (That's our lottery slogan)

This is a great idea! I just now found it though! I am so glad we have through tomorrow. I know what I will be doing all night. Between this and Judi's challenge to comment on all the freestudy pictures I am motivated to start commenting. I will be brewing a couple pots of coffee.

Basically, each comment you leave is an entry. You don't have to show them here. I'm encouraging people to post good comments here, though, as a way of motivating people and patting the commenters on the back.

At the end of the contest, we'll select 100 comments left during the comment period at random. A panel of judges will then select the best comment from those 100, and the author of that comment will win a free membership!

In other words, there is an element of random chance involved, but it's going to take a quality comment to win.

Do Critique Club comments count?
06/02/2007 11:44:05 AM · #70
all comments -- cc, portfolios, old entries, new entries. That's one reason I was trying to keep the cc empty. :)

Last day!

If you've gotten some great comments during this contest and would like to say thanks, please post the comments here and/or make a thank-you donation!

Do we have any results yet as to who might get what???

Yeah, I'm wondering who won.

Last I heard, Terry was having Langdon compile a report of all the comments given during the period, then, it will be narrowed down to 100.

Nothing has been chosen, yet.
