*drumroll please*
Announcing ...
Kelly's new camera!
But wait, there's more than just a camera thanks to the zaniness of internet pricing.
*cue sickly game show music*
- a brand-spankin' new 2GB SD card! Store roughly 4 gazillion photos!
- an extra battery, because ya ain't gonna take 4 gazillion photos on one battery!
- a handy-dandy camera case in which to lug the thing around!
and THAT'S not all!
You'll also receive:
- an SD card reader (in case you didn't already have one)
- a tripod (in case you didn't already have one)
AND we've saved the very bestest of the best for last:
- a NEW, never-before used, FIVE-PIECE lens cleaning kit (now, don't faint in amazement at this last item); did I mention it's a DELUXE 5-piece lens cleaning kit?
All brought to you by your generous friends on Team Suck, where sucking rules and generosity is the word of the day.

I expect shipping will take several days. Yes, I've sent Kelly the list of people who donated.

And on the list of truly exciting and amazing things going on in the world today (drumroll please!) I have discovered unofficially that there is NO option to decline my fun-filled all expenses paid 365 day summer vacation! I'll be going, and that will be that. |

Deb,
I wondered; I know at least two people pulled back from retirement (they were already retired, but no longer are). I wish I had something more to say, to give you, at such a sucky time in your life. I don't.
You will be in my thoughts for each one of those 365 days.
Rob
/edit/
P.S. Don't forget; if I can help with the cats, or anything else, please let me know. \edit\

Damn. Saves agonising about the decision. There are about a million positive things to say to try and put some spin on it, but none to alter the underlying vector that sends you one calendar year where you don't want to go. Feelin for you. How many cats did you say? |

There's nothing wrong with Dubai, and I here the shopping is great. As well as cats allowed. >Rolliing with laughter.

Been traveling, and hadn't time to visit the beach house. I am so sorry to hear your dream job is ending so soon, and that your life has been thrown into chaos. I am thinking positive thoughts for you. |

Appreciate the thoughts, and hey Raish - I'm open to any of the possible positive spins you can think of! Brian, don't understand your comment at all. It's not Dubai, by the way.
My biggest concern (among many) is of course my cats. They're my kids. Some would say I should just give them away but I can't do that. I'll see if anyone here is willing to take them for a year (that's asking a lot, I know) or I'll have to find a way to get them to my mom, which involves tons of paperwork and flights and expenses. Argh.
I'd finally got settled - got the storage room and the guest room all finished up last weekend. Have all my 220V appliances, purchased with the understanding I'd be here for three years to get my use out of them. On the plus side, quite glad I hadn't bought a new car yet! Now must figure what to do with the one I have.
It's all an adventure. |

You guys are so nice! And since you're all willing to help, anyone want to go to Iraq for me? :-) (Worth a shot.)

They wouldn't take me, so it's not even a good hypothetical . . .
. . . but, if you do want someone to look into cat transport, I'm willing to spend some time on it (I moved my cat and dog to the UK from the U.S., including an eight month stay in Germany -- so they went JFK to Munich, and then Munich to London eight months later -- to avoid quarantine here), and I know I have notes from that experience somewhere and can dig them out if they'd be useful. I'd just need some basic details on the little ones, and your mom's location. PM me if I can help.
I still don't have words for this, Deb; I agree with what everyone's said, especially what Laurie ( L2) said: thanks for serving. You don't have to be a "volunteer" for it to be appreciated (it is).

Deb, have sent you a PM regarding your cats. We are willing to take them in - I love cats, and my husband has agreed. |

You guys rock! And as of today, I volunteered. There are two positions to be filled and one of them is unacceptable to me under any circumstances so I volunteered for the other one. Hopefully that will work out. If it doesn't, I'm going to go play in traffic without a helmet. :-)
I really appreciate all the offers of help with the cats. I'm going to investigate a couple of possibilities to keep them in Germany as I've requested a year extension after I return so maybe I can still get my European experience. If I can't keep them in Germany, I come from a family with a lot of cats and my mom will take them. As I told Mary in an email, the biggest problem with that solution is after a year, my mom may not let me have them back! Besides, they have claws and they're hell on furniture. :-) |

Deb, I can't add anything except to repeat thank you, stay safe, I'm sorry this has happened, and I hope it goes better than you expect.
Oh, and if you happen to run into Jocelyn Schermerhorn, say hi - she's my wife's first cousin and a C130 navigator. |

Deb - thank you for your years of service. I am sure something will work out for the kitties. Maybe there are some European DPCers who have some good connections?
I will pray for you of course while you are in Iraq. Use that time there to create a photojournalistic story of the people you meet there and then show them to us! It would be great to see Iraq thru your eyes.

o, deb, i'm so sorry it all seems to have gone slightly pear-shaped. it sounds like you're approaching it with the right attitude, though. i echo everyone here saying good luck, and our thoughts are with you. i know when you get there you'll keep yourself safe. i guess now you must take full advantage of european summer before you head out...
about cats - KLM seem to the best when it comes to beast moving. we brought our dog home with us from africa, and i think he had beter flights than we did. klm pride themselves on their extremely good animal care en route, and claim to be the first airline to ship animals (or maybe just the first to do a horse - i can't remember). i do know thay have an animal hotel at schipohl, where the animals are cared for while waiting for their connection.

Hi all
Hopelesly clueless as usual as to what's going on, trying to get a decent shot for Double Take, it may or may not get in.
4 Elements at 4.5
Sens at home tonight...wonder if they're going to play hockey, or dodgeball/dodgepuck?...
GO SENS GO!!!
PS Christian I agree fully with your assessment on KLM and yes, they are the choice worldwide for shipping horses...many showjumpers etc do the int'l circuit via KLM.
Bye for now!
