I wanted to post this, as what I find most interesting is a photo that tells a story, or has a story relating to it.
Here's mine:
I was sitting at the table next to two older men when I heard the gentleman you see in the shot say:
"My only regret in life is.."
My friend spoke up about something and I never did hear what the gentleman said. I thought if there ever was a conversation I wanted to evesdrop on this was it. I borrowed my friend's sigma 10-22, placed it on the table and took the shot. Got it home and played with it until it seemed to fit the conversation I had heard. And now I am stuck looking at it and wondering...
Please post your shot that tells a story. |

Well this was my second or 3rd shoot ever when I was really considering photography. Not the best image and I probably could go back and edit it better but I loved her expression. I was shooting from above her on a set of bleachers and wanted to get some expression from her. I just said think about (insert boy name here) this boy being a long time love/hate crush.
and this was the look I got. :)

This photo presented itself to me yesterday and although I realise it's not the sort of polished image that does well in competitions, I had to enter it to share the 'spirit' of this moment.
When pavement-works began to prove a problem for this elderly lady, this young man just 'appeared' and took time from his day to escourt her slowly, but caringly around the barriers, onto the road and to where she needed to be.
It was beautiful to witness and worthy, I think of naming it in the spirit of the lady who I believe is a master of 'people' photography.
I hope my 'goodman' is appreciated - at least for the moment of chivalry it captured.

This shot sums up a very special trip I took with my lifelong best friend last August.
He turned 40 in January '06 and I turned 40 in April '07. Last August was halfway between and it was also a couple of weeks from our being friends for 25 years. For 20 of those years, we've been hiking and camping, mostly in mountains all over the U.S. and, now, the Alps.
This was our first full day of hiking out of four; we were walking halfway around Mt. Blanc. The shot encompasses everything about the trip: good friendship, shared times, and our joint experiences of spectacular natural beauty.
He lives in Seattle, and we went to visit each other for our actual birthdays. What's very cool is that he gave me a multi-shot frame and included this one.

//bp0.blogger.com/__bTIauG5nf0/RdPvRkGJOLI/AAAAAAAAAAM/p-1jskYIvAU/s1600-h/070211.jpg one of the hardest photos I've had to take so far.
the image embedding I tried didn't work, so there's a link, sorry.

I guess my shot is pretty self explanatory - especially with the title, but this is my wife's father who lives 4 hrs away. When these two got together no other person existed.
Gramps was wiggling his adam's apple for hell on wheels who was totally struck by this amazing trick. The camera was sitting on the table in front of me and I happened to notice that every time the kid (hell on wheels) would grab Grandpa's adam's apple, paps would just stare at him and literally beam with love. Wow, that sounded cheesy but I ain't retyping anything.
This was the first and only time that I ever picked up a camera for a candid and knew exactly how I wanted it to look when finished. More than likely it doesn't appeal to many people but it's probably my personal favorite of all my crappy shots.

The pic should tell the story without explanation if the picture tells a story.
The one in the previous post was funny with the explanation though.

I live in a town that was founded on textile plants. My Grandfather worked there until he retired and my Father and Mother worked until the plant closed. Yes I intentionally put the word ‘Pains’ in the title because with all the layoffs and closing of plants our family along with others had to go through so much hardship. I worked at the Bibb Manufacturing plant for a few years and remember very vividly a lay off that happened while I was there. I had only been employed for about two years as I watched a 60-year-old man whom had been there for 41 years clear out his desk because they laid him off. I cried [yes a grown man is allowed to cry] for him as I could not understand why they would keep me with only two years of service and let him go before he was able to retire leaving him and his family without insurance and a weekly income. So yes there were a lot of pains through those panes.

Becky-Leehad a friend named Myles Mansell. He was one of those who lived life to the fullest, riding his motorcycle, enjoying adventure, loving his family and friends. He also had a strong sense of duty, and was proud to become an armed forces reservist.
Becky came home from work one day, sobbing uncontrollably. All she was able to choke out was, "Myles is dead."
He died in Afghanistan when a roadside bomb hit his jeep.
news story
This is a poor quality photo as the original was lost and this is pulled from my blog, but it breaks my heart every time I look at it...
Becky says a final tearful farewell to Myles. |

I created the scene but used it to create a keepsake.
