well the day has finally come. My wife just went on disability and we have hit rock bottom financially. I'm afraid it's time to sell my gear :(
I don't really know what the rule of thumb is on photo equipment though and need some advice. E-bay is a PITA IMO so I would prefer to try and sell the stuff here first. I want to be fair to the buyer as well as to myself - so how do you come up with prices? Is it retail cost minus a certain %? An arbitrary number that just "sounds good"? Sell as a package? Separately?
The stuff I will be selling is:
Nikon D200
Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG for Nikon
Quantaray AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 High-Speed for Nikon
Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D
Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED
Nikon SB-800
Everything is in really good condition. I don't have any of the original boxes but I should have all the accessories. The D200 has a few thousand clicks mainly from 3 big events (I bought it in December).
I have one last show to shoot tonight and tomorrow so I won't likely be putting it up for sale until next week.

Ebay may not be your favorite place, but it is where you will get the most money for your gear. You should consider it...

What does "PTA" mean.
Acronyms are not my strong suit.

E-bay is a Pain In The Ass In My Opinion.
I will definitely consider it. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

I'm not entirely sure since I've never actually sold anything but I would think you could probably get more money for it if you sold it all seperately. As for the pricing, see what other similar items are going for on ebay, fred miranda, etc and price according to that. Packaging, I'm not sure on that one.

| Yeah, ask what you paid for it. Then ask a litle less if it doesn't sell. Then if people are knocking on your door threatening to take your material goods, knock the price down a bit lower yet. Continue until sold. |

Bummer about having to sell the equipment, not a fun place to be. :(
You will tend to get better prices if you sell each item separately, than if you sell them as a single lot.
If you do sell on eBay, then spending a bit of time working on the ad will pay off with more and higher bids (it might seem like a PITA but it's worth it), this is especially true on high-value items like photographic equipment. That is, include item specs or put links to manufacturer's web pages for the items, a sentence or two about item condition, that sort of thing. I've got better prices than other people selling the same thing simply by putting a bit of work into the ad. If you get Turbo Lister (free download from eBay) then you can set up one ad and then make copies of it for all the others - a much easier way than using the Sell Item pages within eBay.
Also, searching completed items on eBay (even if you aren't planning to sell there) can give you an idea of what people might be paying for the different items.
