Vote Sorting and Categorization - DPChallenge Forums

On the thumbnail page we already have the ability to sort by vote but I think it would be more helpful if I could sort based on gallery type. For example, I'd love to be able to vote on just the landscapes then just the candids and so on and so forth.

I pretty much go back and look at similar shots already before giving a final vote so this would help simpify that. Even if you don't do that I think it's more fair to vote on liked images all at once rather than say having a candid shot getting sandwiched between two gorgeous landscapes while voting.

Anyway just a thought. The entries would still be randomized like always but with the added ability to sort via gallery types.

It's not very random if you can sort it, now is it?

But the point is to give everyone an equal chance to be voted on. If you're allowed to sort by just landscapes, vote on those, and then run out of time that week then those landscapes get an unfair advantage or disadvantage.

I can just see it effecting voting. Once some people notice the change they'll adapt what photos they enter and the change will have even more impact.

Well you can do that now without the sorting. I agree if more people are into landscapes they will get more views and votes but that doesn't effect scores.

Besides the point isn't to cherry pick but to vote them according to similiarity all at once rather than mixed in with other styles. I'm more interested in this for Free Studies where you have a wide range of styles and this in my opinion would make voting more fair in general.

If you wanted to add a requirement that you must vote on 100% just to sort like this I wouldn't have a problem but I don't see how that really guards against anything that doesn't already take place now.

Just curious, lets say this was being done. How do you make sure a candid gets in the the candid pile? Sometimes I don't put a photo in a category and sometimes it isn't really just a candid(like street photos). Is it up to the user to select the category, or do we make

scalvert go through and put each image that doesn't have a category and put it into one? :)

Yes it would go by whatever gallery was chosen by the person who entered the photo so yes it could throw some into the wrong groups. The Nude gallery is probably one that would get abused the most but then just make it so the voter can change that on the voting screen if he/she wants to without effecting the original choices on the actual photo. It doesn't have to be an exact science I just want some damn sorting abilities! :P

Btw, it would at least inspire me to vote more if I had more control over my voting experience. Heck don't even go by gallery types go by length of title. The longer more sappy titles I'll vote on last. :P

It does seem tough to get an honest assortment, but I don't see an end to 330+ challenge entries now the DPL has started so something could be nice.

7-animals
6-portraits
5-landscapes
4-anything you think was done by the ribbon hogs
3-babies
2-flowers
1-titles longer than three words
If you like it you can comment on it to give it a little bonus :-P
