Why don't we all just go find the best shot we have ever taken, one that will knock the socks off every voter here? Enter it into the next challenge, wait until rollover to get it DQ'ed, then keep that nice 8.0 score and have it boost up our average. Sounds great, doesn't it? |
I don't have one of those shots:( can I borrow one of yours? I mean since it will be Dqd anyway what does it matter :) |

Just because someone was dq'ed doesn't mean they are out to cheat. It was her first entry, that tells me it was probably something she didn't understand about the rules.
Play nice. |
I'd rather burn her village! ;-D |

I do not want to string the photographer up - and yes, it might have been an honest mistake.
But I don't think she should keep the score and have it counting in her average (actually I don't think any DQ'ed images should count in the average for anyone). |

Maybe it works that way to make people think twice about self-DQ'ing a poorly performing shot?

I think it's a good point. Honest mistake or not, it's almost like saying, "The shot is dq'd, but you can keep the ribbon" |

LOL. <-- Really!
As far as the honest mistake goes, we can assume English is not her native language, so that adds to the possibility that her error was unintentional. |

Great, now there's a half naked girl on the front page that isn't in the nude category. Maybe there needs to be a partially nude category, so us people at work can hide those too. |

I totally agree with you, it amazes me at how so many and especially long time members immediately assume and continue to call people cheaters. Why can't people just say sorry and congratulate the new winner. There is no purpose and serves no good to call anyone a cheater. Heck like said earlier, there could have been honest errors in camera settings etc.
.
If this is the norm, and it is here at DPC ... then every single person who has been DQ'd including some of the SC's are cheaters and we all wish a scurge on ya all!! If you've ever "Cheated" by error or mistake shame on you, you are a very dishonest person and we all know you just tried to get away with the cheat hoping to win a worthless ribbon. Shame shame shame. And the same goes for drunk drivers, speeder, stop sign runners and everyone here who tells little shite lies on a regular basis. He who has not "cheated" throw the first stone.
Sheeeeeeshhhhhhhh!!!!
.
heck there are some good programmers here, why doesn't someone go through all the challenges and post every name who has ever been DQ'd. Now wouldn't that serve a great purpose too . Come-on now guys and gals ....

I'd like to knock DQd scores out of MY average. They weren't doing so hot when they were DQd. :)
My questions about the shot weren't time-related, but editing-related. That is, I had no reason to suspect anything, it was just "first-time entry. I'll just wait to congratulate her until I'm sure the SC has validated it."
New members make all kinds of editing mistakes. Honest mistakes, esp. if English isn't their first language.
Now I'll go post a consolation note on the shot.
Edited to note that if her camera's date was incorrect, she could have honestly checked the box on the submission page. Note what it says:
Yes, this photograph was taken with a digital camera on or between May 1 2007 and May 31 2007.\
It talks about when the shot was taken, not when the EXIF says it was taken.
On my date DQ, I'd forgotten to set my camera's clock back an hour. I took the shot at 11:45 pm the night of rollover and checked the box. It "was taken" on the dates indicated, even though the EXIF said it was taken at 12:45 am the next day.

I didn't mean to imply that the current DQ girl was cheating, but I do stand by the fact that over the years I have seen a higher proportion of ribbon DQs belong to first time entrants. I guess there is a curve to learning the rules and that could account for some, but there are also people who are happy to overlook the rules first time around in order to prove to themselves they are good enough.
If this was simply a date error, I appologize for the implication. I do think it was an incredible shot. I wish she said what the sphere was made of. Glass? Water? something else?

Doc-She says drops with syringe and needle in her comment in the photo discussion. She doesn't specify water, glycerin or other. |

Now, for everywhone, who think that it's marble, too round to be droplets, too edited or sth I announce that I'm takeing droplets phtos for one year and I know how to get round droplet, we need 2 things : flower with silky-smooth petal, and syringe with needle. The droplet must be very very small to be so round. I've send my proof - oryginal photo, hope you belive me :)
Thanks a lot for nice comments and so many votes !!! |

I don't get it, her average vote received is 0.0000 and challenges entered is 1. It appears that Dq's do not go into your average. Am I missing something? |

And if it was as simple as the date being set wrong on her camera, then she was completely honest when she checked it. |

Check out my first challenge entry. I didn't know the rules and submitted a shot that clearly broke the rules. I even put in the details that I "used two pictures" and "put together in photoshop".
I made a mistake b/c I didn't know the rules.

Dang you, shame shame, I can't believe we didn't beat you to death with a wet noodle. I can't believe that you tried to cheat and got caught. What a terrible expample of dishonesty, shame shame. And the true fact was you put the processing steps in the comments so if you got causht you could say you didn't know. Can't you see that not knowing the rules is no excuse and that makes you stupid as well as a cheater! LOL

I for one LOVE it when first time challenge entrants win a ribbon or do really well. It keeps new folks interested & around for one. Another, it raises the bar here for all of us & I am all for that.
When other first timers rank lower but DQ-ed, for the most part, we seem ok with that but not so when it is a ribbon winner. Let's remember, to err is human. I know I didnt read all the rules, beginning to end, when I started. I just was so excited that I just jumped right on in.
On the other subject, I seem to remember the rule being that if you DQ, you get a 0. Keeping the score sets a wierd precedent already mentioned in an earlier thread- why dont we all just enter our best shots, get DQ-ed and boost our average scores? Some discussion & rethinking seems needed if this is actually the case, no?
