I think this one is going to be as good as the last one. I'm expecting a lot of pics and a lot of good ones. I like them a little more open. You get lots of different things to vote on. But really it comes down to technology(?) of the photo, does it have "wow", does it appeal to the eye. Let's face it they all must have appeal to get voted on - unless they are really bad and then they are asking for it. Even "pretty" gets into the scoring. It's a personal thing whether we like it or not. That's why you take the scores for what they are. The people that think like you will score alike. Right. So throw out the others that didn't like the subject. It's all fun and intertaining and at the same time it is a learning experience - at least for me.

I like the animals along with all the others too. There is nothing that doesn't fit if you think about it.

(1) what's the standard for "excellently executed" ??
(2) what's the difference between "standard cliche", "non-standard cliche", and "non-cliche" ??
(3) who's complaining?
(4) tossing around terms like "ignorant" smacks of just that

I have to agree with Gordon on this one.

I see a fair number of comments disparaging one style of photography over another. These comments for the most part don't seem to be mean't to do a lot of harm but they do come off a bit negative. In my business I've seen tens of thousands of photos which means I don't see too many NEW subjects entered here..whether they are kids, pets, flowers, aliens, or whatever.

But excellently taken photos with unique perspectives regardless of subject matter are good to look at :-)

Let's face it. A great photo is a great photo. I can't wait to see what people will be submitting. I look forward to great cliché shots (like the one I'll be submitting lol), and the more original shots too. As long as it's got some zip I'll score 'em high. If it's a poorly executed shot with just a witty title, I'll vote 'em low. Should be a great batch of pictures this week. Good luck everyone.

P.S. I can?t believe I?ve already submitted my shot for this week ? I?m always working on the final shot late Sunday night. I dreamt up a concept and worked on it Wednesday night. It turned out great, so I?ll be able to do other photography over the weekend and give my brain a rest.

In the interest of seeing how far technology could be taken, I checked out Merriam-Webster's and found this as technology's primary definition:

tech·nol·o·gy
1 a : the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area
b : a capability given by the practical application of knowledge

So, it's pretty broad and I'm looking forward to seeing what gets submitted. I myself am choosing between 2 potential shots, 1 which definitely would be seen as technology by all viewers and one which might not (but is a shot I would rather take). I hope I have the principles to heed my own advice and go for the shot to make me happy, not all of DPCHallenge!

So an X-Ray of a cranium isn't out of the question?

Yes do so! I didn´t this week and it was a terrible misstake. I submitted the photo I thought the DpChallenge people wanted to see. Wrong, wrong and wrong again. You can never tell what other people think so go for the shot you like best yourself. I´ve had a terrible week being angry with myself every minute of the day. I´m mad at myself for being so weak and not standing up for my own taste.
So go for the shot YOU like the best!

I'd assume that since Gordon said it, he'll be the judge. Don't you know that Gordon is a professional photographer that spends his days in the worst technology company known as Motorola? :)

(I can say that because I used to work for them as part of my youthful ignorance phase, then went to another company in 2000)

Here's my first submission of a cliche flower, usually done with a yellow gerbera daisy but i chose white instead.Pic

I would have thought the people complaining about them being so cliche'd
must know exactly what they are, as they are so bored of them already.
It would be pretty easy to knock them out in that case, don't you think ?

You are scoring awfully high on originalty for a cliche :)

I hope you'll all laugh when my entry this week (conceived before this thread started) is revealed...
