I've been kicking around some ideas in my head and just wondered what people could come up with. There is a set of 'conventional wisdom' on how shots should be taken or what sort of styles are typically used for particular types of photography.

I've been trying to think of existing appraoches in one area that I could apply to others.

E.g., very modern fashion photography approaches applied to flowers

or, classical landscape techniques, applied to candid street photography

or using the widest angle lenses available for sports photography, rather than the more common longest telephoto you can find.

any ideas ?

Isn't the phrase 'conventional wisdom' an oxymoron?

(Must learn to spell one day)

Gordon, interesting concept, and one that could yield some interesting results. I believe that progress only happens when barriers are questioned.

This got me thinking, and I have to admit I find the idea of panoramic macros to be intriguing, if tedious to stitch together. I might have to experiment with this a bit.

I think the conventional approach has become just that because it generally provides the 'best' images. A telephoto shot gets you into the action a wide angle simply doesn't. I think there's also a situation here where people have become accustomed to viewing images in the conventional format so anything else will automatically seem wrong.. A good example being the voting on images for this site, innovation often goes un-rewarded...

Having said all that.. good luck with the ideas I'd love to see some of the results..
