Is it possible to make it so we can create polls to get an idea of what others think without actually needing a comment. Say I want to know how many like micro stocks, how many hate it and how many don't care, WITHOUT the hassle of reading rants on it, people can just vote and I can get an idea. This might also be useful for individual photography. Does this picture look better greyscaled? Yes, No...that kind of stuff.

I agree that would be a very great addition to the site

Well like some forums we would just create them in threads shouldn't be too hard todo. Takes a bit of time to put in but langdon can handle it.

Perhaps you can post your specific suggestion for a poll -- wording of the question and choices -- in the Web Site Suggestions section instead of this blanket request ... a very educated guess (mine) would have it that changing Forum code to accommodate user-generated polls is quite low on the priority list, but actually posting a specific poll isn't too hard, if we find it a useful and/or entertaining subject ...

here's an example i found:

polls in forum threads SAMPLE

it would be nice to have something similar on dpc.
after all, like Jason said, it's good to see the poll results without reading each post and counting them one by one.

I personally think the user generated polls would be quite useful.

My host offers phpbb and it allows the creator of a thread to place a poll at the top of the thread. It will allow a question and from 2 to whatever the admin sets as the max. (10) choices.

actually, has Langdon ever considered using the vBulletin template to replace the site's forum? it has a lot more useful feature, like tracing a member's last posts, etc. - and yes, it has a very nifty poll-creating feature too.

I love the ESPN polls. They break it all down state by state. Probably not relevant here, but my favorite poll.

Blasphemy! =D

These forums are really nice, particularly because they cut out the noisy junk that most forums allow. Is there really a good use for user-created polls?

In the photography section, yes. I could name several that I would start with while posting a photo of something I've done. It allows people to agree or disagree with something without actually having to say anything. For instance - Is Nikon better than Canon? Yes, No. The person might be looking at buying a Nikon over a Canon. People might not want to get into why they believe Nikon is better, but they just want to say YES or NO. That's a basic question, I'm sure others will have more.

As for the off-topic section, I can think of about a million polls (Mostly for men) that would be great...but that's off topic.

I still think it would be good.

Why not have a poll about how many users would A) Like to have a user generated poll. B) Don't want it for whatever reason. C) Could care less either way. D) What the hell is a poll.

First off vBulletin isnt free and we cant reuse any of their code.

Main point is its easier for langdon to integrate new features into his code then to integrate another forum design into the site.

yeah, well... in the end, at least we agree that a poll feature in the forums would be really useful.

Dunno about vbulletin, but phpbb is free.

poll creation feature would be useful for debate and opinion seeking threads such as these recent ones:

the cherry-picking and vote thread

feminism's existence debate thread
