Often, I don't get definite answers. Whenever there's been the slightest doubt on my pre-voting tickets, the SC member answering me has been very clear on that point.

I think maybe everyone assumes the entire SC discusses everything pre-voting. They don't. It's just not practical.

That said, I had at least one case where someone (karmat, maybe?) did a Herculean job of giving me repeated opinions in the last two hours before voting began on one challenge. I kept asking further refining questions.

She was polite and clear the whole way through that it was her opinion, but based on past experience.

To give you an example, using RAW conversion software to remove a slight vignette has been deemed legal because it's correcting a lens defect, however ADDING a vignette in Basic will lead to a DQ because it's a lighting feature/effect that never existed in the original. The principle behind Basic Editing is global touchup of minor imperfections in your captured image. If people would just keep that in mind instead of wringing their hands over ways to introduce new things in post-processing, we might never see a DQ in Basic.

I was only explaining the rationale behind the DQ. Using a tool to give the appearance of a special effect is asking for trouble IMO. As with any decision, though, some people (even within the Site Council) will disagree. That's just the nature of opinions. If the rules were completely objective, DQs would be probably automated and there wouldn't be anybody to complain about. What fun is that? ;-P

Sheesh what the heck happened with this thread.

Just to clarify, I never claimed to have asked for pre-qualification on the Pi image. I have asked in the past, but I no longer see any point when sc have stated that the answer may not be binding. I considered rounding up previous examples of images that changed radically from the original despite basic editing, but precedent never seems to matter much here and debating a subjective decision seems futile.

If that's the way it always works then I apologize. I would just hate to be given a green light and then have it dq'd. scalvert said in an earlier post that if a person is dq'd on bad advice, then it's not counted against them. Based on that, it must happen now and then.

BTW, I'm not upset with anyone. These are just concerns that I've had for a while and this just seemed to be the place to discuss it.

No sweat, Bob. I think it's great to chat about this stuff so everyone gets a chance to ask questions.

Anyway, getting back to our usual TS stuff, I'd like to thank posthumous and others who gave me feedback on my shot of my grandfather. I agree, Don, I took too much of the color out in my initial edit. Here's the final version. I sent him 25 4x6 copies via shutterfly. He'll be handing them out like candy to my extended family. :)

Results don't get much better than that.

Let's inject some (what I hope passes for) humour into this thread.

Here is the shot my hubby suggested I enter for the Symmetry challenge, along with his suggested title.

The score doesn't say the story here. I am so happy with this image. I knew it wouldn't score well, but I love my comments and half of them are even positive! :) I can't wait to hear what Team Suck has to say about this image...

Thanks everyone for comments on my FreeStudy. Sometimes you get attached to a photo and can't see the flaws. Thanks again.

Also, look like I am in "DPL". Wasn't planning on being the challenge but a good picture presented itself. I think it is a nifty photo so it'll probably score low.

I just entered my DPL Album cover shot also. I don't know how well it will do but I'm happy with it. I also have one in for Vanishing Point but I have this feeling I will be punished for my processing. Oh well, I know some people will like it.

I've entered my DPL shot too. Can't say I've liked one so much in quite a while. I really had fun editing this! I just hope it goes over well. Probably not, since I like it. When do we get our DPL private threads to share our shots? I'd like some feed back on it before hand if possible (since we are supposed to be able to do that).

I was kind of disappointed when voting for Cultural Events. There were some good photos in there, but nothing I felt really stood out which was a surprise.

I can't wait to see your entry though, Don. It'll be interesting to see your take on the subject.

I, too, will be in DPL, after I re-edit the thing. May even reshoot it. But I had AN IDEA! Holy cow, an actual idea. Then I even planned a shot and everything. It scares me a bit. And I have high hopes for it - like above the 50th percentile, maybe. Which means, like Kelli said, that since I like it and have decent hopes for it, it'll tank. See Kitchenware. :-)

I finally have an idea for DPL but now I have two ideas, once pretty and one dark , both would be fun to shoot *sigh* decisions, decisions.

Shoot them both then see which one you like best!

I is in DPL with something that I perceive as dpc friendly. I expect to be punished accordingly in voting and/or dq'd for whatever. I should get a fair few dnmcs for my vanishing point oeuvre as well.

Hey all...I haven't been around for a bit. I've been babysitting a sick granddaughter. She's doing much better now. Also I've been helping my daughter get ready for her new baby which will be here next Fri. the 18th. (I'm so excited!)

I do have a shot in for DPL that I kinda like. It's the first time I used CS2 which was quite a challenge! I have always used PSP. Lots to learn!!

I've got a funny idea for DPL. It won't even take much to shoot. But now Art's got me mentoring a PS 101 group looking at selection tools, so I'm gonna be a busy boy!

Hi all

Just helped sell a horse, been very busy but that will ease up a little now - just got in for DPL, should have fun! Dr Seuss cruising along around 5.2.

Bye for now and GO SENS GO!!!!

Ok, I'm in for DPL. This one may fall squarely in the WTF? camp. I may go away until Monday to keep myself from being tempted to whisk it back out in a moment of regret.

In fact, I better step away right now... :)

I do so love Team Suck. :-)

Mine, I hate to say it, may actually be DPC-friendly. And now I have essentially jinxed myself... I will leave scores off. But I am pleased with it. From the "I had an idea" stage through the processing which involved farm more tools than I normally use. And learned a fun thing to do with text which I noted in my comments.

My DPL is in, and I'm expecting a mixed reaction. As a photo I think it is reasonably decent, though not overwhelming. As an album cover, it depends on your taste. I grew up in the Seattle grunge-band era, which probably had an influence on what I consider to be an engaging look for a cover. In fact, I lived in Seattle during that era, and still think the Pearl Jam cover with the distorted sheep sticking its nose through the fence is cool. (Not that my entry looks anything like it.) Does anyone else remember that cover? I'm probably a decade (or more, LOL) out of fashion.

Oh, on another note, has anyone heard from JuliBoc yesterday or today? I'm worried about her being in Florida with all those fires. I'm going to PM her right now. Please post if you've heard from her.
