Fair enough. I talked to the guy upstairs. Commandment waived in this instance. |

This thread has had some of the best SC posts I've ever seen. I mean, Ben explodes (I can't remember ever seeing him even mildly upset before now), Karma and others post true rolling-on-the-floor laughing stuff (eat more fiber, etc.) ...
I'm glad I found this thread.

Old news. Sorry you missed the initial excitement. BUT, if it is worth that much to you, I am on SC, and I could probably get her riled up. I really don't want to though; she's a much more pleasant person when she is not mad at me. :) AND, she hasn't done anything for me to try and rile her up, so it would grossly unfair.
(edited to add translation -- This thread was begun a week ago, and since that time Amy has calmed down, and things are running very smoothly. She really doesn't hate SC, I don't think, though she may not agree with us at times. But, that is okay. It would be boring if we were all alike.) |
hey I didn't see this Thank you Karmat no I dont hate you guys an apology was coming just didnt know how to word it

"I'm sorry" is a great start. You give the SC hell and they don't deserve any of that.

I feel like my challenge entries are not being
appreciated by voters either. Photos that I thought
should get 5.5 to 5.8 are voted just around 4.9
It makes me wonder why I even enter, when I know
it will not do well. I guess I can learn from
comments left. But most of the time comments don't
make sense to me. I would say on average,
my entries receive an average of .5 to .7 less
than they deserve. .5 to .7 may not seem like much
but it's a huge difference on where you finish.
5.5 puts you right in the middle of the pack most of the time.
4.8 and your entry is in the bottom quarter of all photos.
There should be a new DPC rule that if you give an entry
a 1 or 2 vote, your anonymity is lifted for those entries.
And commentary is not just optional but mandatory. |

Since you resurrected this thread to make your point I'll reply here.
I think if you would like some critiques on your images you should post a couple in a "Individual Photograph Discussion" thread. I'm sure you'll get some valuable feedback.
As for the votes, yeah...votes tend to be lower at DPC than some people expect. It does get discussed on a regular basis but there's nothing that "discussion" gets but the same type of replies. (Search the forums in you don't believe me.) If you focus on the written responses to your work more and less on the numbers you will (most likely) be happier in the long-run. :)

fair,
there is no reason for you to be complaining, you have 2 of 6 challenges scoring above 6.2. You got 1 DQ and the others landed right where they should. Why was Night Rider a ribon winning shot? It was a black car at night. YOu could have shot it w/ a tripod and long exposure and it would have looked better than flash. The photos that you say should have been .5-.8 higher than they ended were indeed weak photos. The technical aspect was fine, but nothing else, composition is OK, subject is OK, and there is little to no "pop". If you don't want people to view and vote on your work because you can't handle low scores, don't enter challenges. You could use feedback to benefit your photography... I guess you are wishing my camera breaks into a thousand pieces and Im forced to eat them.

Amy, I've had the same thoughts.
Everyone here knows deep down inside that the people who have a distinctive photo style get ranked higher by their friends, but that isn't the only reason.
They are good photographers.
There will always be a small amount of favoritism among the voters who have made friends,
but there isn't a whole lot the SC can do about it.
It's hard to track and even when they do track it, how do they control it?
I know that crap is unfair,
but all you can do is do your best and try to push through it.
I thought about quitting last night.
I thought about quitting everything.
But atleast you were mature enough to take responsibility for your actions.
I just logged off.
=P
Anywho, don't feel preyed upon. You aren't the only one who has these thoughts. |
