I just read a great tip for dealing with wrinkled muslins in Popular Photography magazine.

Set a fan to or have an assistant move the muslin during exposure. The movement will cause a soft motion blur and your wrinkles disappear! :)

I got one of these. takes a little time on a 12x10 but works great.

I use a steamer in the studio, but for out & about.... I still think this tip rocks! Gonna have to try it. I imagine it would give a better sense of seperation as well.

Related to this. I've tried moving colourful fabrics (prints, stripes, stuff like that) as backdrops for stuff to get blurry colours, and it sometimes works. Most of the time it didn't come out very well though.

LOL, yeah, I glanced at the screen and saw "Wicked Muslims", I thought "Mildliy controversial" but joined the thread nonetheless!!

Why wouldn't the strobe freeze the motion on the background, thus exposing the wrinkles? Wouldn't you have to really drag the shutter - 1/30 or slower?
