Nikon AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm is something I'm interested in. I mentioned this to a friend who said he wouldn't want it because it has no internal focus. I'm assuming this means that when it tries to focus that it moves on the outside of the lens. Is this really an issue at all? I've seen some of the photos that have won ribbons with it...but I still have to ask, is this worth paying for or would be better off with the MACRO 50mm F2.8 EX DG
Edit - Sorry for the title...that's not what I meant to put.

According to Photozone the 60mm micro-nikkor does have internal focus. It does, however, expand when focusing to closer distances. You shouldn't have any problem with the front element rotating when you focus. The Sigma 50mm that you have listed as an option will also expand when focusing closer. You would have to go up pretty high in the price scale to find macro lenses that do not expand when focusing, at least you would for a Nikon lens. The Canon 100mm macro is probably one of the cheaper "true" internal focus designs.

It doesn't matter much if you want it for the macro. I think most people use a macro lens on manual focus. Just set a focal distance and move slightly back or forward to get your subject into focus.

I have the Nikon 60mm f2.8 micro and consider it an excelent lens. The micro lens uses a complex focus system that alters the focal length slightly at extreme focus. It has a type of internal focus were the rear element is fixed while the other elements move in relation to it and one another. The front lens element does not rotate, however the the lens does extend by about 30mm at closest focus were it achieves a true 1:1 image. The autofocus works very well and has a limiter at 300mm and the manual focus is very smooth.
It makes a nice portrait lens too, as it works out at 90mm equivalent.
These are taken with this lens:
If you want to know anything else about it I will be happy to help if I can.
