I really enjoy photographing railroad themes. I made a trip to Tweetsie Railroad and collected a few new photos for my railroad portfolio...

Great shots John. I like RemnantsI the best. It's got action with the smoke billowing up, the tracks and train pointing right at the viewer. I also like the exposure with the details in the shadows and the way the track and crossties look with their detail. The sepia tone gives the image character.

I love trains also. I like "Remnants I" the best as well, but it's tilted a little to the left. :) I don't know what it is with me, but I always seem to notice this and always comment on it when I see it if the shot is tilted. I also like Remnants III, the closeup shot with the nice red metal thing on the front of the engine.

I'll have to chime in here and say that I also like "Remnants I" the best as well... the exposure is, well, perfect! Especially in the steam and smoke from the locomotive. There is a depth (I'll use the word 'depth' for lack of a better one) to the smoke in particular that has captured the texture and realism-- I can almost smell the burning coal!
That said, I'm a bit partial to "Steam Power III" as well, though; there is something especially fascinating about the mechanics and workmanship on the old locomotives... and you have captured it well! |
