Well, I'm not on a crusade against expert editing, just a crusade against non experts failing at expert editing...

No!!!!! Down with Expert Editing!!

Did I mention I'm getting a 3.6000 with my frustrating Expert Editing shot? I am.. and I love it, because it says what I think about Expert Editing for Freestudy. I don't wait a month to enter my best photo only to have someone with better Photoshop skills than me kick my ass. Advanced I can handle, but you can do anything in Expert.

Sorry, but if you are getting a 3.6 in any challenge it wouldn't matter if you invented Photoshop as nothing is going to help that image.

There's a specific reason mine is scoring so low. It sucks. I mean, really, it's horrible. You get tired of finishing in the middle of the pack sometimes and snap. This is my snap.. with an expert editing touch.

I knew I didn't stand a chance so I just had fun with it. And I'm at a 3.9000 now. Thank you very much!

=)

Congrats! ;-)

For the record, I'd say that 99% of the entries I've looked at thus far could all have been created with the basic or advanced editing rules.

I initially confused Expert and Advanced and submitted my editing for pre-validation only to have it pointed out the it is an Expert challenge.

The other thing is that the tools are avaiable, but there's no requirement to use them. That not to say that there aren't images that could benefit from some radical Cloning/Dodge-n-Burn/Cut-n-Paste/Filter magic.

Didn't need expert editing for my photo. You shouldn't use gimmicks for the gimmickery of it.

Agreed. I didn't need EE either, even though I experimented with an idea that ultimately just wasn't working out. Skimming through, it looked like a lot of the Expert Editing was used without purpose, just, "Cool, I get to use Expert Editing!" It still has to be compositionally interesting and it still needs to be purposeful to get a good score from me.

I love personal opinion.... Because in my Opinion, when I am granted a Tool to use and it facilitates in the effect I wish to have, than I will use that tool.

Even if another's opinion is its a 'gimmick' or not 'necessary' or pushes it from photography to digital art. Because when it all comes down to it, the photograph itself is just a tool for what you want to communicate.

I know this is a dead horse... my next opinion... but I will beat it again. Expert Editing allows users to do things they can't do before. Some like it, some don't, some love it, some loath it with a passion. However, The saying goes... if you don't like it, don't ... it.

It is really tiring in my opinion, for me to be listening/reading to all this jabber about expert editing and the need for this or the need for that. It is all Subjective, it is all OUR PERSONAL OPINION, please don't keep sitting there ruining things for everyone.

How about instead of writing posts about how much you hate editing, how about you write a post (tutorial) about minimalistic editing or, how to take a good picture without having to use post production.

Why is it so many people would rather create a problem instead of being proactive?

-------------
Edit to add;

I am not saying anyone isn't allowed their own opinion, because they are. I am just asking that every time expert editing challenge appears you have to continue the same I hate this, Just because you have the tools doesn't mean you have to use them threads. It can drive a person away...

If it was any other challenge besides a Free Study (participating in the Free Study Marathon) I'd probably "don't ... it".

It irks me some that what is one of this sites showcase challenges ended up going with EE rules and created a mixed bag of excellent photography with digital art pieces tossed in.

Obviously, JMO. :D

I think people with opinions should be less opinionated and more photographic, or photogenic, or photosynthesis or something but that's just my opinion. Wait that makes me one of those people.

You are a heck of a lot more photographic, photogenic and photo everything else then I am... so maybe I should just... 'Zip it'.

Ditto everything she said except that I'm happy with my score so far.

But I don't like to try to compete photographically with digital artists. Expert Editing Challenges sometimes seem to end up being a little more like post-processing contests rather than photography challenges.

edit to fix quote

In my opinion the expert editing rules are still very far away from real digital art (with still a photo at the basis).

Hmmm - I took advantage of the expert rules - but my shot looks like it could have been done in basic.

It's doing well, any other challenge and I'd love my score - but this one, who knows where it'll end up - the competition is pretty strong to say the least.

Which means, you have more rope which to hang yourself.

Edit to make sure it is understood that you is generic you, not personal you.

Very eloquently stated.

I like EXPERT EDITING, therefore, I choose to hang myself from the shortest rope possible from as many hangmen possible.

Believe you me, there are plenty of hangmen out there just waiting in the shadow, scared of something different, comfortable with the tried and true, ready to pull the lever.

But ya know, I can care less.

Hang em high.
