OMG, Svetlana ... it breaks my heart that people want to display your gorgeous photographic artwork and don't seem to be helping with the finances of same. For you to mention hoping that you will be accepted to stock sites made me cry real tears.

Lea, you have to ask yourself why you entered. Was it to compete with DrAchoo, Larus, et al? If so, well, you have to decide whether that's worth the effort.

Are you entering to get some feedback on your shot, both in comments and from an average vote? If so, well, who cares what other shots look like?

Are you entering to see whether a new experiment worked for the average voter? If so, well, who cares what other shots look like?

Are you entering to get a rise out of people (social justice, artistic mind-blowing something or other, political statement, etc.)? Well, then who cares what other shots look like?

Get my point? :)

I'm probably going to enter something in the free study that I like a lot, my family likes a lot, and my mentor likes a lot. The average voter, based on a similarly edited recent shot, will probably give it a 5.5 or lower. Why am I entering? To see whether I connect any better than the other one and to see whether anyone else at DPC likes it.

I have no doubt that I could redo Moonrise and get a 6+ score, as I planned to do when they first announced expert editing for the free study:

But ya know what? I've already done it, I already know that many people like it, and it would be yet another night shot of a Washington landmark.

Darn you - you're making me think !!

I guess I'd say I entered it because it was something new to me, and I wanted the feedback from the average joe as to whether or not I even succeeded in meeting the criteria.

It's a shot that I like, but I know it's not technically a good photo.

I entered to have something to enter, because it's fun to try new things, and because - regardless of my score or my comments - it's a learning process for me.

These are good numbers for me. My triptych comments are divided between people who like it and people who dnmc it. Success!

and positive comments from Jeff and Catherine! That reminds me, I had a great time looking over kitchenware results and noticing that on some of the underappreciated shots there were positive comments from Team Suckers.

and speaking of pride, I caught a fish yesterday and skewsme cooked it up real good! and you'll never guess what kind of fish it was... a sucker!!

For our lurkers who may be wondering what Team Suck is all about, please see two recent posts I quote below.

For my fellow teammates, I think some of you might be shocked to hear remarkably suck-like discussions from various SC and other folks with whom I have the pleasure of conversing. :)

And for Posthumous in particular, I'm so glad I gave you a good comment. :) Or is there another Jeff in our crew now? I can't keep track. Anyway, I'll be curious to see what you think of my free study entry.

I agree, I also would like to add that this a great group of people, that freely give time and support on a personal level as well as just photography, I have seen support from members on topics ranging from whether to continue as an artist to how we should react to comments left on entries that upset us, and everyone is so understanding and supportive, TS is just a great place to be!! I know I am very grateful to be a part of it!

Oh and thanks for all the comments on my recent uploads! I do appreciate it!

Key lime pi IS delicious, as is lemon meringue, huckleberry, cherry, apple...COCONUT CREAM... man you guys are making me hungry!

I've got an idea of symmetry - will attempt tomorrow AM. Just finished my FS entry. Made myself stretch my limits and try something at which I have little experience.

Um, Posthumous, glad that skewsme cooked up your thirteen inch sucker fish. Hope she enjoyed it. LOL. Were you wearing a kilt when you ate it? quiet_observation wants to know. Just kidding, Mary. I do know how much you love kilts, so I couldn't resist.

Too bad Dr. Seuss isn't expert editing. Jackal9, this photo is begging for a cat-in-the-hat to pop out of the window.

See, ya get a score above 6, and WHAM! You're sucked in. Sucker!

Man, that word just has so many good uses. :) Which leads me down memory lane ...

A few years ago, I was invited to speak to some freshly minted federal employees who were entering gov't in the same internship program I had finished. It was the middle of the first day of a three-day orientation, so I knew they had some slogging to go. Hence I went for humor. My key word was "suck:"
Suck it up: sometimes, as the new person, you just need to do what you're asked to do

Suck up contacts: my current job is the direct result of calling someone after I got out of grad school who I worked for as a contractor before grad school.

Suck up skills: if you're idle for a few minutes, learn a new trick in a word processor, spreadsheet, etc.

Suck up: sometimes, getting it done means swallowing your pride and helping someone above you look good

It still warms my soul that it was well-received. :)
