I got to work with an actor / model from California who is visiting Utah for a short time. He goes by an acting name of Pharoah Harvey. Here are some of the pictures I got while working with him:

If you have the time, please look through the images and let me know which one(s) are your favorites.
Thanks for looking! :-)

Thanks Jutilda for the comments. Based on one of the comments you made, I've uploaded one more (one where he is looking away from the camera):

Bumpity bump.
I know the girl models get all the attention. So this one's for the gals out there. Tell me your opinions. :-)

They are very nice, especially from the technical and artistic standpoint.
The colors, lighting, DOF, composition, detail and exposure are really well done. Very professional, IMHO. I do wish there was more light on his beautiful blue eyes in many of the shots.
He's a very handsome young man. (Sheesh, that sounds like something my grandmother would say!) I wish I could attend "Jutilda's School of Diplomacy", but instead I'll just make a few comments about how I think he will do even better if he can learn to relax a bit and not try to seem so serious. The smiling shot is my favorite because it's a change from the expression in most of the others. I also like the last one because it's so dramatic and artistic.
Personally, I don't think his hair is doing him (or you) any favors. And I feel that his shirt is competing with his face, especially his eyes. (Did I mention his beautiful blue eyes?)
I he can change it up a bit and expand his repertoire of expressions, I predict he'll be a Hollywood hunk in no-time:)
P.S. I see that he must like this one the most, too. Since it's already on his Myspace profile. |

oooohhhh, great, now you've said you want to know what we think! Before it was only which was our favorite. Makes a big difference.
Your technique and processing are good. Location is good. Light is excellent.
However, he was one "nervous nellie" wasn't he! His mouth is clamped into a straight line in almost all of them. Unfortunately, that brings down the appeal of the pictures for me. Well, of course, this was the first time you guys worked together and that, more than likely, might have been the problem.
Some of the posing, especially the one of him leaning/squatting against the building and the one of him standing in the road with his legs(seemingly) crossed looks a little off. Maybe a little feminine? geesh...I never thought I would ever say that about a pose. sorry
My favorites are
for it's dramatic appeal. It's one picture where his stern look enhances the mood.
Yes!
One for the photographer. Nice.

I'll probably edit some shots to bring out the eyes. This are just straight out of Adobe Lightroom with a PS action used only to resize and add a border. There were a couple of images that I looked at where, if cropped in tight, his eyes will really pop.

The smiling shot is one where we were playing around and I caught him laughing. He mostly was interested in more dramatic shots for his own portfolio. Although I do find it interesting (as you pointed out) that he posted the smiling shot on his myspace web page! Maybe what he thought he had in mind wasn't what he really wanted after all?

I had the same opinion. But .... he's an actor ... from California ... what do I (from backward Utah) really know?!?

No problem ... I *really* appreciate the feedback. (even if I didn't request it the first time around) ;-)

Yeah, there was a guy on one of those Law and Order kinds of shows (can't recall the show, can't recall the actor's name), but he had this sort of dramatic appearance. He totally reminded me of him.
This shot was kind of fun. It took it in daylight. The only reason it looks so dark is that I shot it at f/14 which blocked out much of the ambient light. Then I just put him in real close to the flash.
What surprised me (never having tried this before) was that as I took the picture, I could see the "pre-flash" on his face. I didn't even need a modeling light. I took several shots and with each one I would give him instruction on how I wanted him to move so that I could get him right exactly where I wanted him for the light to hit him this way.
Thanks for your comments!

LOL! Hmmm...a 23 year old Scorpio? I think I'll have to pass. But a 39 year old married woman can still look, can't she;)

It's been my experience that people usually start out thinking that they want those serious shots, and the photographer ends up working hard to get anything else. I think your hard work paid off, and he'll be more versatile in his next shoot.

Demi Moore has her own boy-toy. So it's not out of the question! :-)

LOL. Demi Moore is more of a woman than I am. I tried a 23 year old Scorpio when I was 30 and I couldn't handle that one. I think I'll have to admire from afar. Besides, I'm sure my hubby would object;) |

This one would have made for a killer nude...male or female. |
