Actually... none of these people were models. A hair and makeup specialist was brought in to our meeting and she demonstrated her techniques on her "friends". These are just a few of the images I captured afterwards:

Okay, as was pointed out in another thread... if I want comments, I gotta ask for them.

So tell me ... whatdya think?

For a bunch of "first time models" I think they did pretty good. Some were better than others, but we definitely had fun.

The lighting was my own. I brought my studio lights to the get-together so that after they were done getting their make up and hair done I could grab some shots. I let photographers borrow the lights as well, so I wasn't the only one shooting there.

That sounds interesting. How did you go about setting up a meeting like that? Was it camera club meets Mary Kay or what? Strobist suggested setting up some lighting parties, but this sounds like it would be even more fun.
Pictures: Looks like they had fun. Most of them look natural.
uummm
What kind of critique do you want?
The best of the bunch. She looks natural. Great colors. Were you shooting with an umbrella or softbox? The reason I ask is that the light could be even softer. I really like the tilt in some of these.

One Model Place has a nationally organized get together in various cities around the country called "In the Click". It's basically a chance for photographers, models, MUAs (make up artists), etc, to get together... to meet, to "network" and in some cases work together right there.

That I know of, OMP recently disbanded the In the Click meetings ... or at least, this particular meeting was not OMP-sanctioned. But I've heard that it may be coming back... that they are still trying to hammer out the details.

I love my softboxes. But I hate taking them apart and putting them back together again, one of them (a 5' softbox) is too big to fit in the car. So I almost always shoot umbrellas when I'm on location. It's just so much easier to transport an umbrella.

Thanks for your input. :-)

I think that first shot was lit perfectly. Too bad about the zit on her forhead and the fact that she had a WHACK of mascara on or it would be an INCREDIBLE portrait shot for her to take away from the meeting.

Cool shots all around ...

Yeah, I agree. But I can still edit it away. None of these are edited yet. I was basically trying to see which are the more popular images to help me decide which ones to spend time on editing. (not that much needs to be done, I just have so many other things to do) Thanks for the feedback.
