I've been trying to get this effect in the image for a while. Any input would be great. This shot was taken near my place of my photo buddy.

Before, untouched.

I was hoping for some input on whether it was a job well done, or if I over did it, or if it's just totally messed up?

I really like the effect you gave it, but I'm clueless on how to dodge/burn for effect. So I don't think I'm giving you what you need. Sorry about that. But I do like it.

I quite like this, a definite improvement on the original. It's subtle, but awesome.

This is one of my better dodging and burning:

See the tutorial by Pedro in the - you guessed it - Tutorial section for D&B.

Here's a link, but probably easier to just go to it.

Or for that matter see Idnic's "Paint with Light" tutorial.

Here's an example of one of mine that is (in my opinion) overdone, but I was in a weird mood that day.

I can post the original if interested.

I think it's good; it's a fairly subtle use (doesn't scream D&B at you the way some do). No question the second pic is greatly improved over the original, which was fairly flat.

You may have gone too far on the bright spot on his cheek, you've lost the detail in there. But balancing the light on the right of the escalator was absolutely the right thing to do!

Thanks. I'll check out the tutorial. Just hoping I will improve over time.
