Tell me its not ken. The logo is a bit wide doesnt look like it says Nikon. God forbid it be a canon.

Can't be there's no banner ad or begging for donations in the shot.

Wow. I just googled "Ken Rockwell" and after the first two hits (which are both his site) things get a bit unflattering for Ken. Of course, the third hit is DPC. :D

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I couldn't help but laugh when I saw this:

My Nikon 24-70mm arrived yesterday. Let's see what it can do, although I have no D3 yet on which to really wring it out.

I was shooting it off against my 35-70 2.8, but since I'm scared of the 28-70 2.8 I don't have one. Does anyone have a loaner 28-70, which is probably the most relevant comparison? This really doesn't get interesting until my D3 arrives.

But the day before...

I got my hands on all the new Nikon gear this weekend for a little while. I even had some time to compare the new lenses against some old ones on the D3. Read Saturday's report if you haven't already. I'll be moving my reports from below to the respective product pages later today.

He's lying somewhere there. Does he have the D3 or not? Meh...

Edit: Re-reading it, I see that maybe he simply borrowed some of the gear on the 12th.

The way I read it is that he had the D3 for a little while over the weekend. His new lens only arrived on Monday, at which point he'd given the D3 back.

Besides, why does he need to lie?

Duh, I borrowed a D3 back in November, and my personal one arrived in December just like everyone else.

Duh,
Ken

I found this thread while googling ken rockwell in search of validation of his self proclamation of diety. I guess I need to search some more ;)

While there is no doubt that everything you read on the internet is a lie, it is actually disturbing that so many newbies find that site while searching for information on lenses on eBay. Sellers now list crap and junk with a link to his site to validate that the 30 year old lens they picked up at the flea market for 10 bucks is as good as a new $2300 lens because ken rockwell says so... I fail to see how Nikon would profit from such reviews and doubt very much that any company would be directly involved. I have dealt with Nikon as a contractor, and while they will loan equipment for specific purposes for a specific amount of time, they will also send someone to \'pick it up\' if it isn\'t returned at the agreed upon time or bill you for it.

Given that the website itself reflects the total disorganized nature of his thinking process, he will have to be content with begging people to send him their old equipment and the few dollars he gets from his ad links. Clearly he doesn\'t have money, knowledge or resources to devote to the website which would tend to support the bafoon arguement, because it costs very little to have a site hosted these days and maintenance is easy if qualified people set it up, which is also cheap because there are more HTML weenies out there than WalMart greeters.

Still, the technical data on the site is for the most part accurate, it\'s just not coherent and most thoughts are never completed, which is either a clue to a severe mentally challanged individual, or he is just shooting it to try and validate what he is saying.

The only real conclusion that I can draw is that he has his own style and everyone should be adopting it. Be that as it may, this is the internet and there is unlimited room for tripe, but as that tripe is now misleading so many new budding hobbyist photographers, perhaps it\'s time. I also haven\'t found any contributions attributed to Ken Rockwell yet, which is rather odd for someone who is jumping up and down saying all professionals should be sharing everything they know...

Thank you for your indulgence, I\'ll toddle off now and maybe find another message board to post on in another 10 years LOL. But before I go, you should probably start a new thread titled \"How old is Ken Rockwell\", but then that would give him even more of the attention that he seems to crave so desperately. It\'s just unfortunate that he doesn\'t understand his talent doesn\'t crossover to other endeavours.

I may not know as much about the old lenses that others speak of here, but Ken has been helpful for me. There is nothing wrong about what he is doing and I have seen first hand the amount of effort that he takes on a weekly basis improving his content. Hats off to him. I wish more of the experts mentioned here would also do this as consistantly. In the end all we are is what we see and what we feel if a person cannot communicate that then what good is the internet anyway.

I still say "Fool"

Wow, people... why the KR bashing here...? I have read about 50% of his writings on line and I have to say that I agree with most of the technical points he makes. I also share a passion for Nikon equipment so his OPINION is welcomed as I look into a new purchase. Having a resource like KR on line helps folks become a little more educated on the item they are dreaming about getting. Add KR̢۪s review to the manufacturer and a few other reviews on line and I feel that I have what I need to make a solid decision. So my point I want to make is, lay off the KR bashing and simply remove his bookmark from your favorite browser and let the rest of us take his OPINION and add it to the rest of our findings. There are plenty of OPINIONS on line (here is mine) and it looks like so many of you forget that KR is a photography enthusiast that is spreading his passion for this great pastime for others to enjoy. I feel he is doing a fine job!

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned Andy Rouse? He reviews new equipment for Warehouse Express online. He is a nature photographer, well respected in the UK and unbiased on the gear he is testing.

KR isn't even in my bookmarks and I'm not bashing him. I'm simply amazed by the number of first time posters, like yourself, that come here for the sole purpose of posting to this thread.

Why not stick around and get to know the DPC folk? You'll find many of them equally knowledge and helpful here.

Wow, this started in 2006. Real quick, my impression of him is he does seem full of himself. He lost a lot of credit with me when he stated that because the D300 beeps during auto-focus (in some modes), and during timer record, it is a non-pro camera. Because professionals do not have beeping, ever. The D3 is a pro camera, it has the beep turned off by default.

I thought it was a stupid and petty judgment to make about the camera and it just smacked of "If it isn't how I like it, then it is wrong!". He even goes as far to label it, the "idiot beep".

Further he continues, as if that is not enough, that it is highly offensive and annoying to everyone within several miles who might hear it. I'm sorry but the shutter release is 5-10 times as loud as either beep tone. If someone has an issue with beeps, they will cream your face into the pavement long before that from the shutter sound.

I keep my AF beep turned on except during wedding ceremonies and other quiet occasions. At that point in time, the Canon 1D Mark III has a special "quiet mode" where even the shutter (and mirror slap) is a lot quieter.

Dunno about the Mark III but the Mark II even on quiet mode, the shutter is plenty loud when yer shooting at 8.5FPS :D

Must not be the same thing. I believe quiet mode is new for the Mark III. It's only one frame at a time. No repeats at all. You actually have to let go of the shutter button before the mirror comes back down. (that gives you a chance to hide the camera if necessary to keep it quiet)

Quiet mode was available on the mkII, but could only be accessed via Personal Function.
