I do find it interesting that I tend to like the work of other Team Suck members on a very regular basis. I don't know if it's because a good portion of us like similar things/shoot alike, or if we've just come to recognize and appreciate each other's styles. At any rate, it's pretty nifty!

Hi guys
sorry i have been a bit quite lately, been busy in the real world and i have shot loads since January so i needed a little break from DPC and also getting ready for the WPL5 session.

Hope all is well and nothing to much has gone wrong. If anybody is interested i have some new stuff up in the Blog.

I am into Thirds and will be looking at the member challenge for this week.

The interview i did was great fun also. Thanks for thinking me worthy of such accolade.

speak soon

My daughter has a stomach bug - we're in day 3 of it and she's still bringing water back up even. So I'm not likely to be around so much until this passes out of here.

Hey, did anybody notice Fearless Leader's voting guidelines on the first page?

I read that whole spiel on that page every now and then 'cause I really like it, but this was the first I saw the guidelines.

Pretty okay FL, if you ask me, which you didn't, but too bad!

"I don't make these very often. In fact, I might never make these, but this is a pretty fundamental policy that I'm talking about, and it's a necessary one for our survival in DPC. It has to do with voting practices. Obviously, we are not responsible for the voting practices of our members, but to go further I'd like to suggest some guidelines for how Team Suckers vote:

- We do not share photos with each other and then vote on them.
- We do not vote higher on images just because we think they were made by a member of Team Suck.
- We do not encourage each other to vote higher for certain types or styles of images. We pride ourselves on our variety of tastes and styles.
- We do not encourage any particular voting method, though we might frown at people with 3.67 voting averages and make grumbling noises.
- The only way we might influence voting is indirectly, by enriching everyone's tastes and opening their minds to what can be beautiful, and this sort of discussion is never about an identifiable picture in a current challenge."

Kelli, dear, thanks so much for the comments and favs - you truly made my day! I've been regretting entering a shot I really liked, but now I don't mind as much at all.

I had a kind of interesting thing happen today - got to see some of my pictures "published". They found out at work I like to take pictures, so I did some product shots one afternoon - I think I mentioned that before. All the post processing was done in Dallas, but the little flyer came out today. Kinda cool.

Congrats Deb. That would be awesome to see your work published. Last year i took a shot of one of our turbine being removed and they printed it in one of the company news letter and that was cool.

As the Billy Joel song says, "and so it goes, and so it goes." :)

Twice I've had my new second-best and new second-worst in the same week!

You're quite welcome. I think you are a brilliant photographer! Congrats on the publishing. That must make you feel warm all over. Can you scan the flyer for us?

OFFICIAL TEAM SUCK VOTING POLICY

Thanks to Jeb for reposting the guidelines. In light of the recent DPC crackdown on shared voting, I'd like to reiterate these guidelines with some important amendments about enforcement:

GUIDELINES:

- We do not share photos with each other and then vote on them.
- We do not vote higher on images just because we think they were made by a member of Team Suck.
- We do not encourage each other to vote higher for certain types or styles of images. We pride ourselves on our variety of tastes and styles.
- We do not encourage any particular voting method, though we might frown at people with 3.67 voting averages and make grumbling noises.
- The only way we might influence voting is indirectly, by enriching everyone's tastes and opening their minds to what can be beautiful, and this sort of discussion is never about an identifiable picture in a current challenge.

ENFORCEMENT:

-DPC will enforce its rules about vote-sharing. Do not worry about being kicked off of Team Suck because of DPC infractions (worry about being kicked off of DPC!).
-The only possible exception to the above rule is if you specifically use Team Suck as your circle of voting buddies, or if you use the team suck thread to "advertise" which photo is yours. Team Suck will do whatever it can to break up such behavior. Please, if you do share photos with other Team Suckers, do NOT vote on them!

I just want to clarify what this means, or rather what it doesn't mean. It does NOT mean you can't say why black and white can enhance an image. It does NOT mean you can't say that sharp focus is overrated. Such kinds of esthetic discussions are welcome and even encouraged, as far as I'm concerned.

By "types and styles" I mean categories that have nothing to do with esthetic quality, like street photos or studio shots. However, I'm still free to say that the vast majority of studio shots with no backgrounds are boring. That's just my opinion on esthetics. Similarly, sickdog is allowed to complain that street shots are underrated. He's not saying to vote all street shots high. He means that DPCers are not applying any esthetic judgment on street shots. (by the way, he didn't actually say anything. I'm totally slandering him right now)

This guideline is primarily about specific attempts at vote manipulation, a comment like "hey, let's boost the scores of all the flower shots in the Free Study!" The less you talk specifically about scoring in the context of current challenges, the better (talking about your own score without clues to its identity or type is fine).

Don, I guess I'm not really clear on this point.

Maybe we need to be a little less direct in this thread about commenting on each other's photographs during the voting process. Not that I'm paranoid or anything.

Don, thanks for the reminder.

I don't recall seeing anything recently, though, that even comes close to being of concern. Do you?
