Got an example? You're making a very strong claim, so I'm curious.

If you mean the comments on "Cobra Charmer," I don't recall any actual disciplinary action.

There was no disciplinary action to my knowledge, but I believe that the discussion firmed up the parameters of what's acceptable on this site.

I'd have to root back through the forums.....there was a thread, and corresponding back and forth in it from SC. I may or may not have time to look.....I will concede that I feel that what I read at the time is good enough for my usage, and should someone ever attack a model I shot, I would ask site council to say something. It's not a matter of the photographer being strong enough to withstand the critique of the photo, it's a personal attack that is not acceptable, *IN MY OPINION*.

I believe that to be a widely held view here at DPC.

Do you agre with the premise at least?

No, Jeb, I don't. As I said before, I think that emotionally powerful shots will get emotional reactions. As Skewsme said, that's a good thing - it means you made someone think. Even if they disagree with your subject matter, you made them consider why they disagree. Really nasty stuff is different, but general criticism of your choice of subject? Nope.

It doesn't matter what I think - complain to the SC whenever you feel aggrieved. I wasn't telling you what to do, just giving my view on it.

I have yet to see much broad consensus on DPC about anything other than, maybe, the dates challenges start and end. :)

Greetmir - :P

This one got an emotional response (which I was expecting), and I let the guy vent. He clearly did not approve of my subject, which is his opinion. I didn't let it bother me at all. I responded to the shots at me, then talked with him through private messages. There was never a need for the SC to get involved.

Just sharing an example.

Purplebutterfly: isn't that fun? See whether you can do something with the light other than run it around randomly. Can you outline the violin, for instance? Just highlight the strings? Color in the shape of the violin and then whip the violin itself out of the way, leaving just the light?

Wow, I've never been inside the Team Suck Mansion before and since Jeff's podcast, I thought I should pop in and check it out. I really love what you've done with the place.

...although there is a funny smell. When was the last time you guys cleaned out the fridge??

Yeah, it's really addictive :) (sparklers are fun too!)
The torch I have at the moment is massive and sort of difficult to use precisely - I might get a smaller one to play with soon.

Ok, got the first two, but how do you do the last one? Oh, is that so that the light doesn't burn out half the violin? Ooh, that's smart :)

Thanks for the ideas! I shall try them out.

It must be the special rotten tomatoes that we keep in private reserve here. I haven't hurled any for a whole week.

purple and color, here are your SECRET assignments.

You must both nominate somebody on the OOBIE and YAPPIE nomination thread. I'd post a link to it, but then that would make your mission too easy.

Now, this is SECRET. Tell no one!

Jeff, it's an apples and oranges thing you're doing with me. The point I raised is specifically about, and limited to, the attacking of a model in a portrait or as the subject of a theme.

I am *NOT* talking about the rude or snotty comment more related to composition subect matter-wise, I am talking about comments made that have only to do with the opinions, tastes, or lack thereof, of a viewer in reference to the PERSON in the shot.

If you want to bust somebody down for technique, technicals, whatever, or just say that you think the shot has no taste or talent, as rude as that is.....so be it.

If you say that you think that the guy in the shot has a face like the north end of a southbound mule, that's just rude and has no place here.

It may be a true and valid feeling that you have, but it's not necessary to publicize it.....and it's hurtful and thoughtless.

If that's something you feel that you really have to express, you know it's rude......PM the person, and then take the reply like a grownup.

This wasn't even the thread I was referring to in my post, but I found this example of an SC intervention as a case in point.

//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=540020

This is the thread I was talking about......very strong and vociferous opining going on.....and you're right, nobody was actioned.

//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=568013

I will just use my own set of standards to never attack the model in a photograph regardless of my own feelings.

I was raised in such a way that if I didn't have something nice to say to or about someone, keep my big yap shut.

Sometimes I have trouble remembering that.

Umm.....

Just was browsing my profile page and noticed a whole sh*tload of additional comments recorded on my night shot.....apparently, y'all been chattin' me up a storm!

Thank you all so much for the wonderful comments. That shot is a particular favorite of mine.

QUAD===BUTTERFLIES====5.507666667
PENT===TEAM ENTROPY===5.403533333
BROWN==GOLDEN BRIGADE=5.086

Now that the Golden Brigade has added 2 new members you can expect their lock on the brown to be over. Something is terribly wrong with the Hoovers. Come on, Hoovers, you're letting Melethia down! You gotta be in it to lose it!

Our Momentary Lapse of Sucking Award goes to k4ffy for his cold Eye on life, on death. k4ffy, it is customary for someone on Team Suck who has perpetrated a hugemongous score to give the rest of Team Suck some love... in the form of comments on this week's photos. We hope you can find the time for us.

I won't give you a hint, so don't look in the first post of this thread, because you certainly won't find anything related to OOBIE and YAPPIE nominations.

Nope.

Lol I am so tired that hints won't work. But I just found a thread and put a question there. So if I don't get any responses, I'll know that I went to the wrong place.

Thanks for the hint lol

You did not find the wrong place to carry out the secret assignment no one knows about. :)

Hey, Don, when do nominations close this week? Or do I need to ask Mary that (welcome back, Mary!)?

We seem to be a little light on nominations in both awards, so I wanna know how long I have to find others.
