"Take a picture that demonstrates contrast, where one element is differentiated from an other by light, structure or other compositional approaches."

Sorry the heat in scotland is 23 degrees and to hot for me thats why my wee brain isn't working ....

Could someone me explain what this challenge is... any examples welcome

two different things next to each other.. could be pieces of material perhaps flat cotton next to a piece of velvet..

It could almost be an opposites challenge... hot and cold (like temperature), fun and boring, fast and slow, happy and sad?

or it could be textures - soft and hard, rough and smooth

or it could be lighting - shadows and bright, low key and high

I think any contrasting elements will work here.

I am thinking it could mean light/dark subjects together to get good contrast. Am I wrong here. I didn't think it meant opposite.

i interpreted this to be opposites

maybe even contrasting colors, or maybe good and bad, tall and short, funny and serious, square and round, democrats and republicans, etc. etc. etc.

Contrasting colors for sure. Contrasting light, for sure. Contrasting textures for sure.

To me, the word 'structure' is what opens up the challenge to more than just light and dark.

To me, "or other compositional approaches." is D & L's idea of saying "or other contrasts"...IMHOMMVETC

Structure isn't all there is.
light, structure or other compositional
What I am trying to say that isn't just opposite of stuctures.

Just a few examples.

But I also think that this would work to.

Just my thoughts on it.

Yes.

Mileage May Vary, ETC. (just picking on the people who qualify everything they say)

Sonifo, I would say that last example was, but not the first. While there is contrast, its contract against a void background, not against another object. I think contrast between the light or the texture or the shape/colour/whatever of the objects in the photo is the idea of this.

doesnt seem that vague. it's the concept of contrasts - whether it be in color, shape (structure), composition, whatever..

opposites! :)

Well, that all seems black and white to me. ;)
