Oooh yeah.. I hate driving because I'm very unpredictable.. I'm always spot on with rules but.. sometimes I forget I can use my brakes...
My mom screams the whole time she sits with me..
So you're lucky...

Indeed! Her dad says he'll buy a new windshield, but he's not going to replace the hood. She'll just have to drive it with a bungee holding it shut until SHE can afford another car! |
I don't understand. Most places don't even allow you on the road without insurance ... That looks like an insurance claim to me.
... and what ABOUT that hood latch? I have not seen a car for MANY MANY MANY years that did not have a safety latch you had to release besides the main latch.

We have insurance, but only to cover liability on that car (its an older car). In other words, our policy will not pay for the broken glass.... so I just called and arranged a glass specialist to be here today to replace it ($180).
Eric, if I had warned you, you would have stayed home! lol
Greetmir - we think she probably didn't have it latched completely when she left yesterday morning - when the wind got under it, it tore the secondary latch out of place - that will have to be replaced too. :/

Well all in all I did not mean to skip over the VERY important thing. That she didn't get hurt. Hood popping can be severely detrimental to your and everyone else's health. I am sure that the damage to the car is a bummer but it is SO great that there was no damage to your daughter!

I take it she does not walk around and check the car before she leaves in the morning?

Me too! With the age of the car I wasn't sure it had safety glass at first and I almost paniced when she called. After I got to her and saw the glass I knew that she was really okay and that it wasn't going to fall in on her so I was much more calm then. I'

To make my anxiety worse, Savanah will leave for college in a few months, about the same time Taylor gets her drivers permit and starts learning to drive! Its going to be a long summer!

Those phone calls will give you gray hairs! My oldest daughter totaled my van the first day I let her drive it to school. Actually, she was about 100 feet from the school. She was fine and she didn't cry until she got me on the phone, then she lost it. I think I made it up to the school in about 2 minutes. |
