No, the Tooth Fairy is real :-), but I have been wondering how to possibly photograph a "well-known superstition or urban legend" when these things simply don't exist. I guess we're supposed to make something up or fake something again. I would prefer to stick with subjects based in reality.

I am trying to do something that is real, but is not an American or Western superstition. Don`t think any one is going to understand it! I think this challenge will rely on the title more than any of the previous challenges, unless everybody does the obvious. (Lots of shoes on beds and umbrellas in houses!) |

Shoes on beds???
As far as voting next week I'm going to assume that if something looks like it could be a superstition, then it is valid, even if I'm not aware of it (like, erm, shoes on a bed for example!). I'm going to have to hope that others do the same with mine.
As for the tooth fairy - hell, if you can get one to stay still long enough to take a picture then go for it!

That's a great approach... I hope everyone else chooses the same method... I hope to learn some things next week... :)

I'm also hoping for, and trying to encourage, voters to look at this challenge similarly to 'My Corner of the World'. I.E. the photographer is sharing something of his/her culture with you.
We'll see how it goes :- ...

Dang. I wish this topic included myths and legends (in general) as they would be more fun to photograph. Most URBAN legends are just gross or scary or impossible to photograph. (Anyone have a snake I can borrow? I just wanna take him down to McDonalds and take his picture in the ball pit). I think the tooth fairy is really closer to a myth, but I'd sure rather see her or a unicorn than someone missing a kidney. Hopefully, ppl will be lenient (HA! like that ever happens). |

Saw a pare of dogs like that once. Kid you not. I'm too poor for this shot. Can't afford a mirror to break. Don't have a ladder big enough to stand under. Dog not a black cat here nor would she have one she didn't raise. Tried to find a corn man, no luck. No fireplace anyway so no burning man. hmmmm |

The tooth fairy that regularly visited our three boys when they were in that stage has been dozing on our couch for the last 3 hours. Plenty of time to get a good picture. Even in low light. ;-)

It's, ummm, interesting that you should bring that up, but I don't think it applies here.
But maybe this is a picture that you just can't get out of your mind... a pretty disgusting picture IMO.

That's actually normal for dogs, and wolves (same animal, really). I have a great book called "The Carnal Prayer Mat", a 16th century erotic novel from China, based largely around that concept :). Great read.

Only 33 submissions so far. Is everyone waiting to set up their shots this weekend?
Usually we about triple the number of entries over the weekend; even so, this looks like a small bunch.

I wish I could enter. My camera broke down before I could do anything for this week's challenge. I'm supposed to be getting one on loan until it is repaired, so I'm hoping I'll be able to enter next week. Fingers crossed.
