I'm trying to find a workaround for my 5D while I'm waiting for the parts to have my CF connection fixed. I've shot with remote capture on the 300D, but does it work on the 5D?

Don't worry about the 5D. If you are as good as you say you are...then you should be just find with your 3MP....hahahahahaha!!

Thanks Judi. I'm getting frustrated here. The software that comes with the 5D doesn't seem to want to work. The problem is I can't tell where the problem is. Is it because I'm hooking up a broken camera, or is it a software glitch?

If it is anything like the 1DII, you can only do it via firewire.
The USB connection will not work. I got caught out by this last week.

ya, both with the canon software and the 3rd party one Judi linked can't recognize the camera. I'm trying to use the USB connection. Why the f*** does Canon even have the USB port if it doesn't recognize it?

Because the USB port is for printer support, not for remote capture.

The 5D does use USB for this option. Any replies in this thread stating otherwise are inaccurate. If you are having problems getting this feature to work, go to Canons website and make sure you have the lastest versions of DPP, Zoombrowser and Canon Utilities. Also if you are using Windows Vista now, you need to download the latest USB drivers. If you still have problems call Canon Technical Support.

I had the same problem, XP would recognize the 5D, but neither DPP nor Zoombrowser would. Couldn't do remote capture, set camera settings, download from the camera, etc. It worked when I got the camera, but I have since updated the Canon software from the 5D part of Canon's web.
I called Canon. Support was excellent. The answer is to remove all the Canon 5D software (I also removed the 300D stuff). Then reinstall from the disk that came with the 5D. I also went into the registry and removed all the stuff related to EOS (the Canon tech said that was the second step if a reinstall didn't work, but I did it anyway).
The latest versions of programs on the Canon web site may or may not work with the 5D, but the versions from February 2007 caused problems with remote capture.
I found that _at least_ UE11UPD_en.exe, ZB580aUPD_EN.exe (Zoombrowser) and DPP (the latest 2.x version) caused problems, so I had to remove them and start re-installation from the disk again.
So I'm running old versions of everything except DPP. The latest version of DPP is a significant improvement over the one on the disk. So now DPP can't talk to the camera, but Zoombrowser can.
Note: just tried the 3.0 version of DPP. Can't open the older camera window. And when I tried camera window, it complained that the 5D battery was low, so you should make sure you've got a freshly charged battery when you try this.

You need to go into Preferences in the Canon Utilities. Once there you will see a tab that says linked software. Click on the tab and you will be able to select which software communicates with your camera, DPP or Zoombrowser.
