North / Central Florida GTG -- St. Augustine -- 7/8th April

Weather forecast:

It was 85 degrees here yesterday, but looks like the weekend is going to be a bit cooler. Don't forget to bring a light jacket because the coastal air gets COLD once the sun goes down. The chance of rain on Sunday is a good thing, we should get some nice clouds (and less tourists). :)

I'm VERY excited for this GTG, its going to be a lot of fun! If anyone needs my phone number and hasn't already, please PM me. :D

OK, I'm off! Dropping off the dog in a few minutes and then I'll be heading out. This should put me in the area around 5 or 6 this evening. I'll be meeting up with a friend from Ocala that I haven't seen in about a decade tonight, but we'll probably end up in the rumored bar at the Days Inn sometime tonight for those that are going to be there this evening.

Can't wait to meet y'all!

P.S. Should I bring my camera? :)

at this point, things are pretty much up in the air as to if/when we get to st aug. we have to be in tampa sat pm, and don't know exactly when we're leaving richmond, other than sometime tonight...

best case, i'll be around a few hours tomorrow afternoon. worst case, i'll be there by weds am. if i don't make it tomorrow, ya'll have a blast, and drink one for me.

I'm here!!! Where's everybody?

I just arrived after stopping halfway to spend a fantastic day boating and BBQ'ing with

greatandsmall and her husband yesterday. (Thanks again Roxanne for the great time and hospitality.)

I guess some of the others will show up within the hour. The weather is sunny and cool and makes for a beautiful day. Seems a little crowded due to spring break, but that could be fun too.

Skip, I hope you make it. Don't make me have to swing by Tampa on the way home on Sunday. I don't have the time.

Damn it really sucks that I'll be at the other end of the state this weekend. I'm flying down Sat-Tue to spend some time with the wife, who's working in Ft. Lauderdale for up to 6 months. :S

The beer is in ice and waiting for you (don't rush, I'll save some for you).

I don't think I'm in the same group of rooms with everyone else. I made my reservation before the group was made available. :( (I'm in 242 btw, as far from the bar as you can get.) I'll be heading down there before too long, though. See ya in a bit. :)

I could kick myself for not going to Florida this spring break! Normally, I would have arrived in Port Orange (outside Daytona) last Sunday and could have easily made the trip for this GTG. Been reading this thread as a way to remind myself to NOT make such a poor decision ever again! Have a BLAST!

we visited art's dpc shop east...

and we learned what not to do when somebody sticks a camera in your face ;-)

unfortunately, i had to bolt just as the group was heading to the alligator farm :( i'm sure there will be a lot more killer shots to follow. looks like everyone's having a great time, just wish i could have stayed longer.

and, in my hurry to get done, i forgot to thank cindi and wayne for making this happen. most excellent!

they're still there, and will be out shooting tomorrow, as well. post to the thread, or pm cindi if you're interested in hooking up with the group. the weather's perfect and the targets are plenty.

What hapens when six DPCers out and about in St. Augustine wander into a restaurant for lunch where Lucy Liu happens to be? Better yet, what happens when all six of them have their DSLR's out in plain sight?

Apparently, she took one look at Skip and bugged out. :)

I'm still hopeful that he can find a shot of her in the 92,873 shots he took. (And, that was just during lunch!) I'm not holding my breath, though.

What a wonderful GTG day!! I just got home and am starting my card dump now... gotta find something JUST PERFECT to pay Skip back for that earlier post!!

Eric, there were 7 of us when we failed to notice Lucy Liu in the same resturant! :P

Nobody, Skip, Yakatme, EBJones, wmprkg, Chriswhowillbenamedsoon, and myself had a fun day today! We shot all around St. Augustine including the Castle of San Marco and The Aligator Farm. I'm sure there will be lots of cool shots to see and I for one can't wait to see them! It was just a great GTG day! More to follow once downloads are finished.

We will shoot again tomorrow, agenda yet unknown and flexible. Anyone who wants to join in should PM me tonight for a cell phone # so they can find us tomorrow.

Well, it's been a blast! Two days and 1,919 shots later, I've decided to spend one more night and drive home tomorrow. These guys (and one lady :) have worn me out! I'll post some shots (Though not all of them!) after I manage to look through them and process one or two.

The highlight today was the Easter Parade. There were four of us still here when it started at 3pm. Wayne (

wmprkg), Cindi (

idnic), Chris (Not to be confused with Chriswhowillbenamedsoon), and me. We stood in the middle of the street while the parade moved around us and took many, many shots! This might have been the best time I have had taking pictures since I started this insanely expensive hobby. I only say insanely expensive because Robert (

yakatme) let me borrow his Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR DG IF-ED and now I have to have one!
