The image has been removed. The DMCA information on our site is really just to protect us. We respond pretty damn quick when alerted.

..Something just occurred to me.
Don't make fun of me for this, but I used to go on a site called Neopets and they had something where if you tried to screenshot their images, they would turn all blurry and if you tried to click them, this thing would pop up that said "THIS IMAGE IS COPYRIGHTED"
I don't know exactly how they did it, but it seems like a good idea for protecting your images here or on Photobucket.

=)) That's good.

I was thinking something like that earlier... Would it be possible?

at least to disable right click functions (although I know how annoying that can be) for the slower thieves?

Dead horse.

This has been discussed endlessly. There are 100's of ways around these.

I'd definitely feel more secure if right clicks were disabled... However, I can't think of what idiot would want my pictures anyways..

Great to hear!

BTW - Are you like the "mystery man" that pops up as needed for Worth1000.com? I see you've been here 5 years, and have 10 forum thread posts. :D Also looks like you had an image posted at some time (have image views)...what happened? No time to participate as a photographer?

I'd also love to hear your thoughts on the heated conversation that took place about the new (trial) Expert Editing Ruleset? :)

Sorry for the thread hijack Crystal...glad your issue is taken care of.

Disable right click....why is wrong? is but one conversation to read before this goes further.

There are things about DPC I don't like...

...such as the troll myth, low scoring and dnmc funaticism... but,

folks here honor the sanctity of the photograph and of the photographer unlike other places where image theft is both commonplace and accepted.

..Hmm. They make some good points.
Well.. That solved that.. For me anyways..
It's still a shame that pictures are never truely safe..

If you want to keep your pictures safe, don't publish them on the Internet.

..What am I supposed to do with them, then? o_o

Agh. I really dont feel like arguing with anyone today. If my images get stolen, all I'm going to do is laugh. Someone would have to be pretty desperate to steal a photo from me anyways. All I'm saying is that stealing images is ALOT easier than it should be. People should be able to do whatever they want with their pictures without worrying about them getting stolen.. I guess there are exceptions to that.. But what can anyone do about it?

There are a couple things you can do:

1-Make your web graphics smaller that 640 pixels. Professionals do this to prevent theft even to the point of poor quality web representations of their images. Not really good for DPC submissions.

2-Not allowed for DPC, but you can put a large watermark of your own logo across the image that makes it totally useless if it is stolen, many professional photographers and all stock photo sites do this as well.

It is impossible to police each and every image uploaded to sites like Worth1000.com or DPChallenge.com. But you will notice that when the owner/administrators become aware of wrongdoing they act quickly.

Oooooo! Free advertising! Make the best of it by one upping the "president" by offering a trade to the director. Give him a matted and framed copy of the image in exchange for the lesser quality image.

You might even return the stolen image to the president with COPYWRITTEN hand written over the image. Along with a disapproving look. :)

OOOH I like this idea! The part that was bugging me most was the tiny web image that was enlarged. Your plan solves all my problems, Thanks. I think I won't, however, join the camera club.

Oh! Do join the camera club. Do a talk on copywriting your images for them. Get some of the resources that GeneralE points too often.

Make him squirm. ;)

I wouldn't say totally useless. Anybody with decent photoshop skills could easily remove most watermarks.

Unless its over a complex image where the watermark destorys the color and is just thick enough to not be cloned out.

Depending on the image at this point hinders viewing.

The watermark your thinking of is a transparent overlay not a solid white one like some stock sites use.
