Im not sure how many know about it, but Wolf/Ritz Camera now has a service where you can upload your digital images and have them printed/processed just like film prints. And it only takes 4 hours (mine actually took 2 hours) and you can select the store you want to pick them up at from a list of stores in the area you are at.
I uploaded severl different images to test their quality of different subjects, colors and so on.
I did some 4x6 , 5x7 and 8x10's and they are very nice.

How are their prices?
I currently use //www.Adorama.com for digital prints, but I have to wait for them to be mailed.
I had awesome experiences with Ritz in Virginia Beach, but the one they opened here in Colorado Springs has been nothing but trouble. The staff (including the owner/manager) is very unhelpful. My understanding is that it takes a decent operator to get great digital prints. The staff at my Ritz isn't very good at anything, unfortunately.

Shouldn't we all be using DPC Prints? |

Their prices are ok, and there is no shipping since you go get them your self. But you still pay tax and pay a handling fee.
but its not too bad if you need prints RIGHT NOW!!!!...
4 x 6 $0.49 (goes down to $0.39 if you get I think 50 or more prints in one order)
5 x 7 $2.99
8 x 6 $2.99
8 x 10 $6.99
Wallets (8 per sheet) $5.54
you can upload up to 100 pics or a total of 45 MB worth of images, max single image size is 3mb

By way of comparison:
From DPC Prints:
4x6 $0.36
5x7 $0.78
8x6 n/a
8x10 $2.35
Wallets (8 per sheet) $1.50.
Seems like Ritz would only be good if I need them *today.*

Walmart is still the best place for needing prints now, only takes and hour and 4x6 are 29cent

I've gotten 4x6 prints (Fuji) at a local Costco for 19 cents. The color was a bit off though. I've gotten some from my local Ritz store as well.
Ordering through DPC prints makes sense if you need a substantial number of (larger) prints, but if I just need a few 4x6 prints I think the shipping would end up costing more than the photos. Of course, that's assuming it costs nothing to drive to the store .... |

And that's fine if you don't mind dealing with people who have no clue whatsoever. At least that was my experience on Tuesday when I went in to get two 8x10s printed. I figured for $2.50-ish each, I'd give it a whirl.
Well, I stood around for an hour, and when I got back to the counter, nobody could seem to find any record that I had ever ordered anything, which really frosted my shorts. Seems their little kiosk thing never "notified" their other computer of the order.
Once I finally got the prints, they did look fine, though.

Ya know, I don't mean to be a toilet in the kitchen with this comment.
I've always believed in taking care of the ones in my life who have shown interest in taking care of me.
I will never understand how some of you can come here on a routine basis and take part in all that Drew and Langdon have built here for to you to enjoy, only to run your loyalties to the next guy over .10 cents. Honestly, if you add up the total savings over a years time, are these two guys not worth an extra shekel for all the time they've donated here for your entertainment?
To post the competitors pricing on this site, you might just ask the Administrators here if you can kick sand in their eyes.
At the risk of lacking a little edict here myself, I do feel a little better now.
With Love, -Gotcha

Well sometimes time is an issue... I'm afraid that there are times where I need to get prints made in an hour and can't wait for the mailman to arrive...
If Drew offers to use his personal Concorde to fly prints to me within an hour, I'm game :)

Nobody ever said DPC will be able to accommodate your every need.
Try this; When you're at Wall Mart, saving your .10 cents.
Have them print out a 24 x 36 poster of DPC products and services and on your way out the door ask them if you can hang it on their window for a few weeks.
Common sense tells me they won't like it much.

My intent was NOT to go against DPC prints at all. I know many love it, and I think its a great idea.
I did try DPC prints once and it told me I had to resample the pics or it would not let me upload or some weird thing like that so I gave up. I dont have a lot of time about 90% of the time to do this extra step which is very unfamiliar ground to me.
I just thought I would post my experiences with the Wolf/Ritz prints as an option if you need prints Today....

Just to be positive...
We've done Adorama, we've done Walmart....
DPC Prints absolutely rocks. These are the best printouts of digital photography I have EVER seen, and they are ALWAYS quick and accurately done.
I highly recommend that anyone who has not done so take the time to learn any little "modifications" that need to be done to photos, because the results are excellent.
Not meaning to put anyone down for using another service, but I do want to emphasize that in MY opinion, DPC has the best pricing and the best work available. Period.
If it didn't work for you once, try again, because it's worth it. :-) And there are tons of very friendly people on this site who will be more than willing to answer any questions you have, especially as long as you remain positive in your attitude.

Is there anyone out there that can print 16" x 20" or larger prints from a digital file? Any idea of cost? |

I recommend a little place known as DPC Prints!! I know they go up to 20x30 in regular aspects, and I've seen 'em as big as 12x36 in panoramic. Quality is superior, and service is wonderful. Quick turnaround and reasonable shipping, too! DPC Prints all the way! |

That's only to sell, so that your buyer has a clear picture of what they are getting. If you are planning to just print something for yourself, you should not submit it for approval, and need not match the aspect ratio. You will be given options to crop or fit the image.

Nor my intent either, of course. DPC is the only printer providing quality control over the image files, but I believe it applies only to public prints. For yourself, you can print as low-quality as you want, just like the other stores do. |

You should only get that message if you are submitting a print for approval for sale, which you do not need to do unless you plan to offer the print for sale on DPC Prints.
There are minimum quality standards in place for DPC Prints (to make sure the buyer gets what they are paying for) but you can print just about any old thing for your own use; just be aware that the smaller your source file, the lower the resulting print quality.

Thanks all for the info. I did not realize that I could order prints direct from DPC! (I know.... read the rules and guidelines....we all know that I have trouble with that...)
I'll give it a try. |

I haven't turned my back on DPC Prints yet. However I have noticed it is a bit of a pain to upload prints. I don't think I should have to upload a thumbnail and then upload a printable JPEG. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Anyway, I wouldn't mind if I'm only having to do that for a photo or two. But when I have 50 to 100 photos I want printed straight out of the camera its kind of a pain. I will still support DPC Prints for smaller orders like one to ten photos but if I need a lot I'll have to take my business elsewhere. Besides it seems DPC Prints is more geared for people to sell there prints anyway than your average consumer. That's just my take on it. |
