The suggestion to revisit previous challenges just gave me another wacky idea! How about "what I learned from DPChallenge" challenge? The idea here would be to literally retake a previous entry, most likely your own, apply the lessons learned and make it better!

Great idea. I've already tried this with a couple of my shots.
The challenge could be "Before and After" or "Take Two!" Score could be based more on "degree of improvement" than absolute image quality (gives lower-ranking photographers a better chance). You would have a variety of images like in the Open Challenge.

And newbies would be classified against what exactly?

I suppose it's not very practical for someone's VERY FIRST challenge, but I think that's as acceptable a limitation as any of the others we endure...
It could be anounced a couple weeks or a month ahead -- folks would see that it's upcoming when they register and not be surprised. It could possibly (not likely) be run as a separate challenge.
It could be the LAST challenge before migrating to DPC2.

JAK, I had sort of taken new users into consideration, with the phrase: most likely your own. As new users might not have any pictures they submitted, the challenge could allow new users to select (maybe required to ask permission, first) ANY photo to improve apon. That would allow new users to find a shot they would have the resources to duplicate, plus they could read the comments on that shot to know what areas to concentrate on. Or is that too complex?

Yes, swash, I see that now.

swash, jak I think this idea would work best as a voluntary activity for the tips and triks treads. To be effective as a contest you would need space for twice as many pictures and commentary as every one would want to defend their decisions.

People can gang their two photos into one image -- we could maybe increase the size limit a little. Show their comments so they can "argue" in advnce.

It might make an interesting gallery rather than a challenge itself ?
Maybe people could do them and post the two side by side then discuss
what they learned. A good opportunity for others to learn from the
experiences rather than trying to vote on it.

Either way, here is my before and after shot, the one on the left
I submitted, the one on the right I wish I had but it took me a while
to work out how to take what I had in my head.

This thread sounds very familiar to me :)

Using Windows XP is there a simple way to show a split screen, or two different images at the same time.
Obviously, I am a novice with computer.

i love the replay idea. the best suggestion that I read so far.
It would be neat to see how people improve their photographs after people made comments on them. It would even be fun to watch people attempt to remake a previously well done photo of someone else.
