update 4/1/07

my uncle smitty passed away yesterday morning. he has had a hellish few months. as it turns out, what caused him to fall off the ladder last fall was the tumor that was growing around his spine. he had been recovering from the fall, but all along complaining about pain in his back, and losing feeling in his legs. when it got bad enough that he couldn't sleep, they took him to the doctor to get him checked out. by then, it was too late. that was only 3 weeks ago...

at least, though, he and my dad were able to spend some time together this winter, including a trip out to las vegas. this is going to be pretty hard on my dad, losing his little brother. your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.

Truly a blessing even in the middle of so much sadness.
Prayers from me as well.

I know this is a time of sadness and loss, but I admire your Uncle Smitty for sidestepping the eventuality for so long, and based on what you've relayed, with such grace and good cheer. Condolences to you and your family and honor him with smiles, laughter, and friendship.

Skip, our prayers are always answered , but not always in the way we expect, or hope for. Passing on is a part of living, and as with my brother that we lost a few years ago, time will ease the hurt, and all the good will still remain. I am happy that you had the extra years to be with your uncle. I understand now, since my brother died, just how important every hour spent with family and friends actually is, and have altered my goals and priority in life because of the event. Honor your uncle with good memories, and share the good stories with your Dad as often as time allows. I feel that it will help you both to do so after the shock wears off. My brother was a good photographer, and I certainly miss having him to comment on my images, and sharing his fresh ones. It reminds me of him to compose and shoot each image that I get.

I totally didn't expect a thank you PM, and I just could not remember what I had done for you earlier. Sorry for the oversight.
Prayers for you and your family.
