Hi guys. I bought a Canon i950 printer a few years ago. I moved cities 5 months ago and haven't used my printer since moving. Now it won't print (surprise surprse). It'll go through the motions, but the pages come out blank. Do you think the printer head is screwed or just the cartridges (6 of the) are plugged? I don't want to drop $100 on new cartridges and find out it's hopeless.
Any opinions / personal experiences? Thanks.

| It's probably not just the cartridges. The head is probably dried up. |

Probably dried ink blocking the printer jets. I had a Canon printer do the same after a few months of not using it. Get some rubbing alcohol and q-tips and keep wiping the place where the cartridges touch the printer until you don't see color any more. I had to clean mine 6 or 7 times. That should fix it.
Edit: And put in fresh ink. :)

Cool I'll try the alcohol thing. Can't hurt. If it does I'll just get a new one. I had been using ink from InjetGoodies to refill, works great.

I don't know about canon printers, but on my epson R2400, the trick I learned from an expert was to make the felt pad which is used to park the print head when the rpnter is off, soaking wet with warm water (you can add a little bit of Windex but it is not necessary), and let it sit for a day. I used a syringe to access it. It made wonders in my printer. Before it used to dry up all the time, but after this procedure it unclogged and has been clean ever since.

I have an i4000 (same inktanks as the i960). The printhead clogged, water wouldn't clear it. I filled an old cartridge with windex and ran a couple of cleaning cycles.
Before you spend $100 on ink, try one of the cheap ink suppliers on the internet. If the printer starts working, you can switch to Canon ink if you like. |
