Originally I was hooked on the competition and learning. What keeps me hanging around now is several things:

1) The challenges keep the old noggin working (albeit not always tack sharp, but churning nonetheless) to come up with ideas.

2) There's never a dull moment around here, especially in the forums.

3) I've met some really nice people thru DPC, some of which I count as friends now in the real world.

4) Learning. As I get more comfortable shooting various subjects and trying new styles, I find there's so much more to learn. Guess what? There's nearly always someone here at DPC willing to offer help and feedback if you ask. If not directly, I can still learn by reading - my 'Watched' thread list REALLY needs to be trimmed!

I hold out hope beyond all hope that I might somehow become a good photographer by coming here.

Then I see the photos that tend to kick my ass and I curl up in a ball in the corner and pout. I shoot Contre-jour quite often, but everytime I think I've got something worthy of a 6 or better... Dare I take my chances?

*sigh*

I enjoy the competition but it also drives me crazy sometimes. I enjoy the forum talk but it too drives me crazy sometimes. Maybe I thrive on controversy. I guess you could call it a love-hate relationship.

I feel like DPC is my friend.....

The people and the photography go hand in hand, with why I love DPC, and everything about it.

I sometime get upset about something in a thread, or a challenge, but when I think about it, I seem to learn from my mistakes, so thats good.

I especially love the way DPC motivate me, re the differant challenges. I enjoy each and everyday when visiting DPC, and I for one would be lost without it.

Thank you to the wonderful friends, I have made and met through DPC, and you all know who you are.

Also thanks to the administrators who began this site, as they run it so well, and they have achieved all the success it deserves.

Amy, I love your honesty, and I also love what you say and do.....Thanks for being my friend.

Thank you........you have all been my rock these past three months, helped me cope, and I just have to say Thank you.....

1) I'm crappy at concept shooting, and my most fun thing of all is right after rollover, reviewing the ranked shots, top to, uh, mine and beyond--it never ceases to amaze me just how creative people can be. The studio stuff in particular, stretches my brain as I'm almost totally a natural light/outside gal.

2) The site's appearance, organization, statistics means no matter what, there's always more to explore and consider.

3) You bunch of yucks always manage to make me smile at least once a day.

4) I love how anyone can comment on anyone else's photo, whether in challenges or portfolio. It's wonderful to get feedback and what works and doesn't work about an image by itself, or an image as aimed against a particular conceptual target.

POSITIVE: There are some REALLY GOOD pathetically underappreciated photos in almost every challenge. I am amazed at the brilliant inspiration that goes unnoticed here every week.

I have made some good friends from this site, some I have met, some I WILL meet and some I may never meet. I enjoy this community we have here, the ups N downs it's a bit like a soap drama too which is really good because I do not own a television.

There are some assholes here but also there are some really funny people, talented people, intellegent people, it's a fun place to hang out for me & I will try to stick around another 3 years.....

I love DPC. I really do.

Why ?

Because for me, as an amateur, aspiring photographer, I have learned SO much. I've never been slammed for asking "stupid" questions, I've been answered every time.

I've been forced out of my little "box" by the challenges - having to shoot subjects and techniques I wouldn't normally even consider.

I've gotten helpful comments on even my worst photos.

I enjoy it here, where there are people from all around the world, of all ages, coming together to enjoy photography. There is certainly less clique-i-ness here than I've seen on most forums.

But, like most everything else in life and on the 'net - you only get out what you put in.

So, I come. I shoot. I enjoy. I banter and comment (occasionally at least).

The day it stops being enjoyable will be the day I leave.

I come back because I've gone from this:

to this:

I've improved as a photographer simply because of the talent here on this site takes the time to explain what they do to achieve the results they get.

I'd need a really, really small bathroom. Somewhat along the lines of this size:

But Scalvert's creations are one of the reasons I like it here. And Art, of course. Not Art as in art, but Art as in Ken.

And I think I have a slight addiction. Now if the voters would just see things my way more often.....
