I've submitted a photo to make you think more than question, explains why it's doing badly ;-) |

guess? I hope its like last time, where scores were low on Monday morning, and went up at the end of the week. I didn't think mine would be well received, but its about 5.8 now. Won't bother me either way on this one, I love my shot. |

Mine was just a joke. And the scores are abysmal. Hope I'm getting a few chuckles out of people in any case.
Then again, my humour is darker than the night, so maybe not.

I guess mine was a little too "set-up" for some tastes; this was a hard challenge to come up with something for. I was also an especially hard challenge to vote on, cause I ordinarily ask myself questions when I'm voting anyways (I know, it's the first sign of insanity).

i think this was a hard challenge because no one really knew what voters are going to be looking for. . .
i took the pic that inspired this challenge topic. but i doubt that more than 5 people know that - or know which pic it is, to use as any kind of frame of reference. :)
For the record it's this shot I took for America 24/7.
Lost Shoe
i think the voting is more or less a free for all. who knows what the voters are going to be looking for! ..
p.s. i have a 5.1 as of 8 am monday :)

Please do not discuss particular details of any of the submissions until after the challenge voting is over. If you have done so in this thread (or others), please edit your post.
Thanks. |

I'm suffering my lowest score ever so far. I think I may have made a big mistake by switching entries last night around 10:30pm. Here are my out-takes (comments welcome on how you felt they would have done in the "Unanswered Questions" challenge). None of them are related to the picture I did submit.

eddy: the last one immediately made me ask the question: "Why is she sitting there by herself?", therefore, I think that may have done well. Some may have complained about the glaring light.. but that is part of the scene, imho.

I just finished voting on the unanswered questions challenge. I think I can guess the top 5 or so.
Far more worrying is that my average vote turned out to be 3.37. The time between shots that spoke to me was extremely vast. As a matter of fact, I didn't give a single 5, which is rare. Most pictures were either extremely good, or on the bad side of mediocre.
And I think I would have to agree that the challenges are very difficult nowadays.
interestingly enough, my picture's score is currently very close to my voting average. I wonder if there is a psychological explanation for that.

I can't help now as I look at my photo but say it appears to many people just don't get the vast thoughts of others. My photo although not my best has a very good focus and a lot of detail and my score is down to a 4.7. Mine is a definate unanswered question although maybe I should have went with my orginal title idea which would have told the viewer what it was but still asked a question.
I think when voting if the photo is technically good it should never be given a 1 or a 2 cause just because you don't think it meets the challenge doesn't mean it doesn't. Maybe you just don't understand the photo...leave a comment and ask how it meets the challenge if you don't get it, and then if you get a reply go back look at the photo again and think about it. It is impressive how often when you know what the photo is about just how much more it fits a challenge.
I really think the photographer's comments need to be visable during voting often something that just doesn't fit a challenge will once you know the photographer thoughts on it. I really think this is whats happening with this challenge and why so low of scores no one understands what the questions are in the photos. |

Yikes! Mine is at 4.9, my lowest score ever! Not sure why it is getting scored so low, think I will stop checking!

These are my out-takes:
None are remotely related to the one that I entered. The coin toss was entered but unsubmitted as I didn't think it me the challenge. I just wasn't happy with #49 Marine Drive. Comments welcome.

I just finished voting...
I gave
3 10's
1 9
and 11 8's
lots of 5, 6, and 7's
This was a difficult challenge, so I gave decent scores if the photo was technically sound. I only gave 5 scores lower than a 5, and they were for images of poor quality technically.

If I could have shot for this challenge I would have tried for the lost shoe. It seems I always see a shoe on the road and then I wonder how it got there and who lost it...lol
BTW I think voting on this challenge is fun! I see a lot of GREAT images. |

My scores are similar, but I still have to go back and change a few. This was a difficult challenge to vote on as most photos did not fit the challenge description--at least in my view. So about a third of the way through I changed my tactics and just figured that I was one who was stupid! I just gave the photogs the benefit of the doubt and looked mostly at the quality of the photograph.

I'm going to vote based on what the challenge said:
"Create a photograph that leaves the viewer wanting to know the story behind the image"
If the image stirs a feeling of wanting to know more about the situation depicted in the photo, I'll rate it higher than one that doesn't leave me "wanting to know more" even if the photo isn't technically better. I think meeting the challenge theme is an important aspect of DPC, so it holds a significant weight in my scoring criteria. |

that's hilarious!
My shots doing pretty well, 5.76, and I personally don't think it meets the challenge at all. I only have 3 comments, one of which I love because it gives the answer to the question which is very obvious to me as well. Still, it's working for some people I guess and I like the photo a lot. |

I have no idea why people do these things with shoes in the situations depicted in your photographs. There is really no good explanation for it. On the other hand, in a crime-ridden city setting, something I am more familiar with, there is a situation where there is an explanation for shoes hanging from telephone wires, etc. The situation is this. Muggers rob and beat a person and steal whatever cash, belongings, etc. the person has on them, often consisting of clothing, in particular shoes. Taking a persons clothes has become a staple of mugging because it represents the power one person has over another person and makes them afraid. The shoes, in particular, are usefull becuase without their shoes the victim has little chance of running to get help during or after the incident, and even if they do run, it will be painful for them. So, taking shoes is customary. However, if the shoes aren't nice and worthy anything, or are not in the muggers preferred size or style, they will throw them up at the telephone wires at the scene of the crime to forever remind the victim about the power that they hold over them.
Just some interesting trivia. |

actually I always heard that hanging shoes are the way drug dealers let people know where they can buy their goods
