This was my thought exactly. :) I also liked the opinion of someone who said it would better to be white than black, for the exact reason they stated... that you could jot other notes/appointments/etc. on it. Just my $.02.

Crazy? I'm just going by all the computer work I've done for people, none of which required any kind of contract and if they weren't happy, we had to come to a compromise before I got paid.

No one is going to take him to court for a couple hundred bucks, the court and lawyer costs would be a lot more than that. If they pay after the fact, then there's no problem (well...), because if they're not happy, they don't pay.

If you never do anything because you're afraid of legal trouble or believe everyone who says you can't do something, you'll never get anywhere. Not to say you shouldn't practice a little 'CYA', and use some common sense, but not everyone is out to screw you over. If you're concerned, which I wouldn't be, but that's just me... talk to a real lawyer.

Have you thought about the relationship he'll have with the clients who hire him? Most likely he will have met them in person and gave them his card, so they'll know that he's young. Advertising in the yellow pages would cost a lot, so I doubt he'll do that yet... could be wrong, though.

You are crazy to not sign a contract for any paid work. You are also crazy to not collect some money up front. Getting paid only after the job is done is 1. not good business and 2. not how things usually work.

Any client can say they don't like your work after the fact and not pay you. What are you going to do now?? You didn't sign a contract so you are going to do nothing because you just got yourself screwed.

Let me ask you what happens when the size and scope of the job change from the original plan. You don't have a contract so what is your protection? What are you now responsible for? What is the payment to be received? Does the deadline change?

A contract is the bare minimum to "cover your ass".

Remember that its not a matter of if someone tries to screw you, its a matter of when. Personally I would prefer to take the hour to write a document saying they can't screw me and the 10 minutes to sign it than take on the wrath of an angry bride.

im going to request this to be locked beacuse it has frayed way off topic. I wanted opinions on my business card. not about my age and legal issues.
