I have taken on a project for this spring to shoot the pics for a local Dance Studio. (Gulp) I am trying to do something a little different then the usual tiedye backdrop and cheesy kid grin in a plastic pose.
These shots were done yesterday (I am currently practicing various light setups) The shoot will take place the end of May.
These are a little rough but the idea is there.
Any feed back is always appreciated, thanks

Hi Coley - I really like the ones with the girls jumping. I'm not totally up on studio dance shots, so perhaps having the leggings show is normal. It just happens to bug me a little bit, because it breaks the line of the leg in a couple of them. Otherwise, I think you've done a fantastic job! :)

As one who has done the tie dyed cheesy kid grin in plastic pose shots ... (great description, by the way!) ... I can say that these look really good.
The lighting works well to draw the viewers attention in. The jump shots are full of energy. My favorite is the ballerina.
Some quick thoughts... since your backdrop is plain, if you could gel the lights to compliment the colors of the outfits the kids are wearing, that could take away some of the plainness while still keeping it simple. And you'd only have to change the gels between teams (and sometimes not at all).
Another thought ... keep in mind that you may be doing full team shots. So make sure your backdrop is big enough to handle the full team. My biggest challenge (not shown in the link I provided) was to handle a team of 35 kids. I knew about it in advance, and so my backdrop is actually turned sideways giving me twenty feet of width. Plus, I used multiple levels (that's why the "props" were there) to help get everyone in.
