grrr im maad, there is a co-worker of mine who's boyfriend just did something really bad to her and has treated her like crap for some time now(prefer not to go into details). anyways today he did somehting then she finally broke up with him and then he is doing some other shit and shes really upset and had to leave. i was talking to her before she left about it and making her feel better and she liked to get it of her chest, but then she had to leave and it slipped my mind to ask for her number so she can talk more about it and get it off her chest. But now my manager is refusing to give me her number so i can see how she is, my manager wont even call her and give her my number, or call her and ask for permission to give me her number. i hate this so much. I know she needs to talk to someone, she needs help and my manager doesnt give a shit. s/he is just saying "i dont want to be involved in her personal life".
I absolutly can't stand that she needs someone to talk to, and im able to help her, but there's one obstacle in the way that can easily be removed. it really bugs me, i hate seeing people in need and knowing i can help but something is blocking me. grrrrr. i hope shes okay |

The manager is in all likelihood adhering to the Privacy Act which dictates that you cannot share information of a personal nature with others without prior consent.

So that if you turn out to be some kind of stalking freak, your boss doesn't get sued by her or her survivors.
Why don't you look up her number in the phone book? Or google her? Or ask a mutual friend?
Leave your boss out of the soap opera. |

If you don't know her name, don't know where she lives, don't have her phone number or her e-mail addy, then realistically you don't know her well enough to be pursuing this. I certainly understand why your supervisor won't call her; that's getting into areas he has no business poking into.
Just my opinion.

I'm betting your boss won't give you her number because of your nose piercing. ;-) |

That's a good reason to back off unless you want to be a stalker.

Most of the folks who posted their response to your thread were not being sarcastic - the concern is that you could be perceived as a stalker (assuming you aren't one).
Anyway - I think you should take people's advice and let it go and certainly don't hold a grudge against your boss. Let's say some psycho-gurl you work with has been hitting on you and you think she's a freakin nutcase and after you leave, she asks the boss for your number or address cuz she thinks you are in danger or emotional peril of some sort. (And just for giggles, let's say she has a bone through her nose) Let's say your boss gives her your phone number and your address and one thing leads to another and soon your severed, shrunken head is sitting on her mantle. How would you feel?
:) |

oh im definitly not holding a grudge, i made this thread at work mad with too low of a blood sugar level. I totally understand why he didnt. I was definitly not hitting on her! I guess i just felt like it was my obligation to make see if shes okay. I tend to worry about others alot. i don't know if thats a good thing or bad thing though...
