Unfortunately mine is not one of those. It has been clawing its way up from 3.? to 4.8. I don't see it getting much higher at this point.

Still Life?

Hey guys, I have a dumb question about the still challenge. :-)

When I think of "still life", I think of flowers and fruit. Would something non-living also be considered 'still life'?

The usual definition I've seen is an arranged setup, so sure.

But if you're talking about the current Still challenge, it's not just still life. In fact, that meaning hadn't even occurred to me. I was thinking of things like a quiet room, a yoga pose, etc.

Well ... IMO ... since the opposite exclusive challenge is spinning ... I think ANYthing that is not in motion would qualify ... even a very still person ...

We've had Still Life II and even one or two called Life. This one is called Still, so that's probably all it means.

Hey, in case anyone is interested, since TS members are starting other threads and projects, I'm starting a kid's project here: //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=560110

My idea is to start it April 1, 'cause I'm a fool for my little girl, and really leave it kind of wide open for participation.

I have an idea for some kind of galvanization of popularity to pick a favorite of the week, but it's really more intended to put a spotlight on a particularly lovely moment than a competition.

Anyway, if anyone wants to participate, come on over in April....it's casual, and bring the kids!.....8>)

Ich habe keine kinder.

Took some snapshots (my forte!) today and will see if I have anything that can fit a challenge. I've actually been trying something for "Spinning" but am not sure the results are quite what I'm after yet. I'll either keep trying, or maybe find a different approach. Have a great weekend!

That sounds great Jeb! I have 4 grandkids and one on the way. I take lots of pics of them!

My only current challenge entry - Colour Portrait - is dropping.
Started at a 5.8, now sitting at 5.6.
I'm significantly disappointed with this, I can't wait for this to end so I hopefully find out where I went wrong.

I decided I don't like portraits. Mine is at 4.8
I know what you mean...can't wait for it to end!

Yay, I want this pic on my homepage! No TS comments yet though.

I'm in for Pop Culture and think I have a Spinning shot.

Emerkaza, I was wondering about Still as well. I may just go drivin' round the backwoods here and see if I can find me an ol' moonshine operation - that's exactly the kind of thing I'd shoot for Still!

I love portraits, taking portraits, looking at portraits. And I was SO excited about this particular photo. Now I'm so disappointed.

I'm in for Free Study, but have NO ideas at all for any of the others.

Kashi and hipychik...don't get too down about scores that drop. Happens to everyone, even superb photogs like scalvert, believe it or not, sometimes take a kicking and watch their scores drop.

Got lemons, make lemonade. If you aren't getting any comments that may indicate why your scores are dropping, I'm sure your fellow Suckers will be happy to comment on them after the challenge is done.

Cheer up! :-)

I'm counting on them to do so !

I've got 9 comments.

- nice lighting
- delightful, comment on clothing
- too much post work on eyes
- comment on clothing
- lack of eye contact
- nice
- too much lipstick
- comment on pose and eyes, clothing
- comment on clothing

Looking now, I agree with the one who said too much pp. on the eyes, I'd redo it with a little less work if I could.
The clothing choice was intentional.
There is no lipstick on the model, nor added in pp.

Oh...mine has gone up! It started at 4.1. :) I'm not too down about it, I know what I did wrong and it's taking me some getting used to my new camera. I just want it to end because I've got an entry in Pop Culture, and one in Spinning that I really like. Thanks snaffles!

About the color portrait entries that aren't doing as well as you hoped: DPC favors extreme closeups, razor sharp eyes, and absolutely nothing distracting in the background. Some people also like no sharp shadows.

But there are a bazillion lovely portraits that don't fit those criteria, so if YOU like your shot, just ignore the DPC vote. Ya know, typical Team Suck approach. :)

I've gotten word on my EXIF questions. I submitted two original JPGs (I can't take RAW), and they were both validated:
1) Transferred from the memory card using a reader called Canon Camera Window.
2) Transferred from the memory card using a reader called Canon Camera Window, opened in PS CS2, and saved as a PS file without saving over the original JPG.

I think that's the end of concern about viewing in PS or transferring using Canon Camera Window. Other transfer programs may cause problems, but not this version of this one.

That said, it's definitely safer to make a copy before opening in PS. Not because PS changes it, but because it removes the possibility of accidentally saving over the original. Although even there, PS pops up a window asking you to set JPG options if you just hit "save," so you have one more chance to realize what you're doing.

I have an entry in for Multiple Light and I don't have one single comment yet. Not one. Maybe that's a good thing.

Keep me in mind tomorrow morning - 9am EST I'll be doing my first ever client shoot. Freebie, but it's a start.

Hi fellow TS members! Sorry I've been AWOL for a while. I'm in for Still and Pop Culture. Life has just been incredibly hectic for the past couple weeks.

Thanks for that confirmation Jeffrey. I feel better about my entries now.
