Thanks for the comment on the sharpness. Don't you just hate it when people don't post the image details? :)

I was using the Nikon 70-200VR and the Nikon 80-400VR, all handheld.

I was in a hurry to post the pics. I'll go back now and post the details for each shot.

No worries about not having the details up! My longest is a 400 too and I can't ever seem to get as close-up as yours are. But, my osprey picture has him carrying a half-eaten fish! ;););)

WOW, great catch Rob! (the photo too:) I watched several Osprey begin to swoop, stutter in flight, and abort their dive over and over again. I really want to get a shot like this of one and their prey. Good job.

Thanks! I was at my parents house for a month recently and have a GAZILLION pictures of them, but I've had so much other stuff going on, I haven't been able to process them at all.

The way the hover then dive is incredible, I only got to see it once though. I have pictures of him hovering and coming out of the water, but he was between me and the sun, so the light is really bad and they're blurry because of a slow shutter speed.

I've got some good ones though. More to come later ;)

Thanks, my friend ... i just got back from a florida vacation - stinkin' herons, egrets, and pelicans are like pigeons down there ... everywhere ... a photographers dream.

Hopper,

Both shots are really nice. My favorite heron/egret is the reddish, yours is right on. I love the way they run down fish at full speed across the estuary. Van

Did I hear someone say "lunch"?

03/23/2007 12:13:56 PM · #62
I sure wish he would eat this one :) He's pecking holes right by the wall of my condo right now. What is he? He's some kind of thrush, I think. I can look it up later, but I thought someone might know off-hand. Shot about 15 minutes ago :)
