Bad choice of wording on my part, just trying to make the point that without permission to do the edits may not be the best way to go about learning things. Its always proper to ask the original photographer before doing this, this is the essentially the same thing that people complain about in threads. Even though you didnt post it as your own(I didnt mean to imply that you did if thats how you read it), I dont think that randomly grabbing shots off other photographers portfolio is a good way to do things, you will eventually end up with someone getting their feelings hurt.

i sent him a PM... neither of us have a problem taking it donw if he doesnt want it up, i guess we shoulda asked, but i figured as long as I gave him credit for the original it's not liek we are taking someone else' s photo and making it our own. It kinda liek a critique, just with editing instead of words.

that offer is still up btw anyone want to volunteer an image?

Feel free to yoinck something from my collection. I am terrible at PP so it would be cool to see how the experts do.

hmm... i would say keep it minimal, maybe a couple of clouds, but no dragons or monsters ;)

advanced editing rules, but with more creative license

well this was quick, i decided to leave the sky as it is..

added a gradient to the sky which i masked off the rest of the image, and a couple of different curves layers with masks, one for the trees and one for the mountains.

I'm just curious since you state this is just a random photo, do you have the original photogs permission or the models permission to do any of these retouches to it? What if the changes you make offend the model by making the changes your showing what you see as imperfections? I dont know just seems to me as much as people on here scream and hollor when someone takes their photo and posts it as their own, or does some editing to it and posts it on the internet that maybe its not best to pull random photos and do what you want to with them without prior permission.

Regarding the clouds: I was in the mountains and clicked a few shots the other day :) Just resized and cut it out, pasted it over and erased the edges :)

Here is my edit on the cows:
