Yup...and we didn't have calculators. If you didn't show your workings on paper then you lost marks.

I don't want to knock anyone for their age, I just thought this might be fun for some to read...
"If you lived as a child in the 40's, 50's, 60's or 70's, it's hard to believe we've all survived as long as we have considering the following:
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a plastic bottle. We sometimes drank from a spring in the earth.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles.
We rode our bikes without helmets and occasionally hitchhiked to town.
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were home when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day.
We had fights and punched each other, ending up with black eyes and split lips. There were no lawsuits. We learned to get over it.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter, and drank sugared pop, but we were never overweight - we were always outside playing. We shared a bottle of Coke with our friends, and no one ever died from it.
We rode in cars without air bags. We even occasionally rode in the back of a pickup truck as a special treat.
We didn't have Playstations, video games, 100+ cable channels, DVD's, or Instant Messenger on the Internet - we had friends. We went outside and found them.
Little League had tryouts, and not everyone made the team. If we didn't, we learned to deal with disappointment.
Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. There was no one to hide behind.
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers ever. The past 50 years have witnessed an explosion of innovation, inventions and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned to deal with it all.
And you're one of those lucky few. Congratulations

My husband always says 'You are only as old as the person you feel'...hmm...that means I am younger than I thought!

So very true... they just don't make us like they use too.

That's Groucho Marx: "A man is only as old as the woman he feels."

I remember being the class 'ink monitor' in primary school. It was my responsibility to make certain the ink wells in our desk were topped up!

The janitor would let us help pull the rope to ring the school bell when I was in elementary school. There was electricity, just not an electric bell at that school. I remember one of my kids asking me if I had to drink from a dipper out of a well when I was young! |
