I had to do a "combining images" assignment in photoshop.. and I know this isn't a "photoshop website" and all but I need some feedback. Altered Center

looks good, but I can see the "stems" from the first flower still... perhaps you should get a sunflower and paste the center ontop of that...

What stems? Looks great to me.

Very pretty colors. And I don't see a stem either.

It's pretty and I see no stems. Also it seems to be seamless. I like the composition and colors too. It could use a little sharpening, in my opinion. I hope you get a high grade!

When I think of "photo combining" I think of Jerry Uelsmann, who was a master of the dark room process. You may look at his work and think that it was computer generated but its not, for the most part. Only recently has he started encorporating photo shop into his work. Heres a link Uelsmann Hope you all enjoy.

This is some great stuff -- I intend to come back when I have some time to really look at them.

BigSmiles: Something in the lighting (I think) makes it "look" composited even though the images are well blended. Avoid over-sharpening, as you can easily make it look composited even if it isn't! (I will post an example as soon as I can track down the file.)

Thanks AP for the Uelsmann link. That's the kind of compositing I would like to do for the illusion challenge. *sigh*.

Here is an example I did for a class last year.

Looks good to me... I don't see any stems either... if they are really there, they are so subtle that it doesn't matter... This is a neat concept :) I would post this one up to photosig and see what they think of it over there also :) Good work!

BigSmiles: this is a nice idea and the combining was well done. But there are two things which in my opinion could be improved.
First, the lighting of both images don't match. Somehow it's immediately obvious that the photo is staged. I think because the outer petal has a much softer light but with visible shadows while the inner petals have more contrast, are wet from rain or soemthing and reflect the light and don't have shadows.
Second the composition. I think the photo would look better when the flower would be placed in the lower right corner. At the moment the flower "looks" out of the frame. This somehow wastes all the space on the right side. It would be better when it "looks" into the frame.
Just my opinion. Anyway. Good luck!

anarchos_punk: Many thanks for the link. Very interesting!

Thanks guys.. the feedback has been super helpful. After hearing such wonderful things I'm confident i'll get a good mark.... also because it's a beginner's class ;) I'll keep you posted on how I do.
